Dreams, Oh Dreams

Can they come true?

Can love come in the way of dreams?

Or does love lift you up, making you more capable / motivated to achieve those dreams?

I think it’s both.

When in love, though, I feel like both people in a relationship cannot achieve their dreams. One has to sacrifice. One has to be the lifter, smiling, being strong for the one on the path to success.

But how is this decided? Who lifts? Who gets lifted?

Does it just fit in traditional roles of men achieving and women taking the backseat?

Or can two people actually assess the situation -

Who is closer to achieving their dream?

Who has more potential?

Who is more capable?

Can it be that a woman is already halfway there but does’t say it out? Instead, she just quietly swallows her pride and lets her man “do his thing”?

Can it not be the other way around?

Can they not take turns?

Let the one closer to the finishing line run his/her race first, while the other cheers them on.

And then they switch roles later?

Can two people really devote themselves to each other and their dreams at the same time?

It’ll be hard for me to believe if you said yes.

But time will tell.

HELLO MANISHA, FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING ME. AND NOW MANISHA, ITS HARD TO BE, IS THE HALF TRUTH. THE OTHER HALF IS TO BE POSSIBLE. MAN AND WOMAN IS PAIR MADE BY GOD. BOTH ARE FOR EACH OTHER. BOTH ARE THE NEED, SATISFACTION AND LOVE OF EACH OTHER. LOVE IS BASED ON UNDERSTANDING. AND LOVE NEVER DEMANDS REWARD. THE CORE FUNCTION OF LOVE AND THE MAIN PURPOSE OF LOVER IS TO WIN THE HEART OF BELOVED. AND THE FINAL THING IS LUCK. THEY ARE THE LUCKIEST LOVERS OF THE WORLD, WHO ARE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND TO WIN EACH OTHER'S HEART. ANYHOW TO BE HOPELESS IS NOT THE SOLUTION. HOPE MUST BE THERE IN LIFE TILL THE LAST BREATH. SO NICE OF YOU. GOD BLESS YOU.

  • And this is why I remain single and focus on myself hehehe. Loved your poem!

Yes. It is possible. Sometimes it seems not true but around the corner the trueness is revealed (if h/selhe takes a backseat for the other, the new plan for that person shows up and is better than what they originally wanted).

  • It is possible but also rare for both to be able to pursue their dreams while supporting each other. But the taking turns, pursuing/supporting that which is closer reminds me of the way the series "Friday Night Lights" ends. She's been offered her dream job as a school counselor but it's outside of Texas. He's been offered all he's ever wanted as a Texas high school football coach. But she's always compromised her dreams for his. This time they switch places. "Clear eyes, pure hearts, can't lose," works well in relationships, too.

What is the purpose of loving someone and sacrificing for that person? It takes integrity, not sacrifice to love someone. If you truly devote your life to the other person, it is the highest values that you find in the one you love. Sacrifice is the exact opposite. It means to give up a value for a lesser or non-value. Love requires two people traversing the world together with honesty and truth. That’s what makes love a glowing, splendid thing. Like your writing. S.S.

Very beautiful story thoughts, love comes when the moment is right, when you don’t have to try.
