Do not look at me with reproach…

Creative author's translation of Esenin’s poem

By KialyPublished 12 months ago 1 min read

Do not look at me with reproach,

I do not hold disdain for you,

But I love your gaze with a hint of mystery,

And your cunning meekness too.

Yes, you seem spread out before me,

And perhaps I'm glad to see,

Like a fox pretending to be dead,

Catching crows and they’re young with glee.

Well, go ahead, catch them, I won't protest.

Just don't let your passion fade away.

On my cooled-down soul,

Such encounters have happened before.

It is not you that I love, my dear,

You are just an echo, just a shadow.

In your face, I see another,

Whose eyes are blue as the sky's glow.
