Book Boyfriend

A poem

He looks magnificent

Sprawled across the pages

The ink showing off his body

Like tattoos curling along skin

His eyes sparkle with mirth

Are they green or blue?

You imagine them

To be whatever you want

He calls to you

His deep voice promising

That reading another page

Will be bliss

Reading a fifth chapter

In one night

Is an indulgence

A love act

Towards your imagination

You want more of him

You always want more

And you are afraid

That the end of the book

Will be the end of your affair

Of your live together

Where he is a frequent quest

In your dreams

With trembling fingers

You turn the last page

But instead of “the end”

You see “to be continued”

Your heart flutters with joy

The relief spreading over you

Like a warm blanket

That your book boyfriend

Gives you with a smile

You clutch the book

To your chest

Full of anticipation

Of what’s to come

As you turn to the beginning

You open the book

On the first page

And here he is

A familiar creation of words

Of vices and acts of kindness

Of splendor and roguish charm

Waiting for you

Always waiting there

With an ever-ready smile
