if tomorrow starts without me...

+

what little things will they be picking up

what forgotten fallen knickers

under the bed

behind the laundry basket

+

what useless things

precious only to me

will they toss away

feeling a momentary pang of guilt for

do grown up children even want their baby teeth?

+

what cringe might they uncover

in matrix trails, here and there

dusty corners of the web

words I should have kept under my mattress

outfits that didn't suit

didn't fit right

dance moves that should never

+

what unsaid words will they pack away

un-stitched heart gaps

old connections long since worn thin and cold

neglected, forgotten

+

what photos will they tuck away

faded memories pressed for another generation

to toss with baby teeth

but also folded into full hearts

stitches aching, pulled tight

+

what laughter lines did I carve

what hearts skipped twice

or missed a beat

what eyes twinkle warm

to speak my name

until it's lost at last

like baby teeth
