All You Need is Love?
by Julie Lacksonen
They say that all you need is love,
But is that really true?
Without a bit of food to eat,
What good will true love do?
*
Will love bring water to your cup
Or crops upon your land?
And will you get a bill of health
Just holding a loved one’s hand?
*
The answer, I am sad to say,
Is love can’t do it all.
But there are things that love does best
Some large-scale and some small.
*
Love can bring a smile upon
A face that once was down.
Love can calm a frenzied child
And turn the mood around.
*
Love can comfort in trying times
Those who would be lost without.
Love can soothe a wounded vet
Who’s hurting inside and out.
*
When time and nature suddenly come
To call a loved one away,
The tears will fall, but love remains,
Remindful of better days.
*
Love can never solve all needs
But it’s a starting place
Love helps build relationships
With compassion, hope and grace.
