Afterlife

Grief works in ghostly ways

Did you move on?

I haven’t felt you near.

We finally found peace in our chaos,

I’ve put together the pieces of your loss,

You’re at rest in my thoughts.

Is it selfish, to want you here?

To see your spirit linger

With a tingle down my spine,

knowing you’re some semblance of mine.

I’d see you in corners,

your cigar smoke in the air

like spectral insence.

I’d hear your laughter in my ears,

like an echo of the hum,

that once lulled me to sleep.

Are you an angel now?

Do you dance amongst the stars?

Or have you found the rest

You couldn’t find when you were here?
