A Christmas Card in Heaven

From Those You Left Behind

We sent a card to heaven,

adorned with favourite things.

Delivered by God's reindeer.

Carried in on angels' wings.

Your Christmas card in heaven

will have cardinals in a tree,

and the squirrels and chipmunks you loved to feed

with peanuts, fruits, and seeds.

The verse inside is missing,

as you are, in our hearts.

But I know that you can feel the love

wrapped in this little card.

Your Christmas card in heaven

from those you left behind,

is signed with smiles and teardrops

for the unbreakable ties that bind.

For even though we miss you,

your spirit still shines bright.

You’ll always live within our hearts

on this, and every night.

If we dare to look real closely,

I’m sure that we will see,

Your glowing smile within the lights

that twinkle on the tree.

And if we listen with our hearts

when chiming bells do ring,

I'm sure we'll hear your joyous laughter

as you're fitted with your wings.

We know you can't be with us

to celebrate this year

so we sent a card to heaven

from the loved ones you left here.

Such a wonderfully written poem. So many of us can relate and feel exactly that same way. This will be our first Christmas without my father, who loved Christmas so much. Thank you for putting those feelings and thoughts into such a beautiful verse and sharing it with us all.

Very good! It's simple and sweet, I like the rhythm and pace; it reads like a letter. I especially like the impact of the ending, "From the loved ones you left here,"

This poem is the tissue that wipes away tears. Beautiful ❤️

  • "Signed with smiles and teardrops." I don't know how to express in words why I love this line the most so I'm gonna just leave it at that 😅 I enjoyed the reread though I'm not sure what changes you made 😅
