That Week We Slept In A Bathtub
It's hard to come up with a single poignant memory of your pets when you have five rescue cats. I have some of the fondest memories of my life with each one of them. I'm one of those cat moms that could never foster. I'd have nine of them if we had the space.

Were you aware that there are literally hundreds of distinct dog breeds? When you decide to get a dog, choosing the right dog breed for you and your family is essential. Rats are weird. 'They're mischievous and cunning, intelligent and so very misunderstood. And yet, never before have I owned a pet, capable of reciprocating quite so much adoration and love.'

Like most people, I've only had a few near death experiences, however, I remember my first one clearly. It began when I was thirteen- still a young and bratty teenager.

Where do I start? The first time I heard her? The first time I held her? No I think I’ll start when I first wanted to help her.

It was January 19th, 2014, when you came into my life. You were so very tiny, and no one really knew whether you were going to survive. When my friend found you and your other litter mates in a bowl under a truck in the middle of winter, hopes were not high. However, prayers sure were! She knew that the owner of that truck and bowl did not care for you; so, she rescued you all and brought you to our office.

It all started back in September of 2020. As I'm sure some of you know that year wasn't the best for everyone. It certainly was easy for me and I was praying things would get better. I'd like to think I wasn't the only person wanting something to help deal with life.

*The dog in this narrative will be called "Kraken" for comedic anonymity. This story is about a girl who always thought she would make a fabulous canine foster until a chance fell on her lap, and she learned that wasn’t the case. First, some backstory. (It’s a lot, but just hang with me.)
Alexandria StanwyckPublished 2 years ago in PetlifeThe Night "Love" Came Into My Life.
I was not looking for her. I left home at 16, a story for another time, but for almost two decades, my life had been about one person and only one person, me. I had just turned 33 and was going through an identity crisis. I was starting over in every way conceivably possible, including career, relationship, locale, friendships, spirituality, and more.
Babe, Meet My Neurotic Dog!
I am a happily engaged mother with a son and three pets. Two of them are male cats named Felix and Tanjiro, and my fiancé's dog, Freckles, who is the subject of this story.

It was a sticky hot kind of August day, the type of weather that usually had me headed indoors or sprawled under a fan somewhere moaning about the humidity. This Saturday was an exception. I was working at our company’s 90 year reunion, chauffeuring dozens of graduates and their guide dogs around town and greeting familiar faces, both human and canine. I had a brief break in the action between duties to drive down the long winding hill and let out my two dogs, who were enjoying their own air conditioning in the staff dog building. Lucky little devils.

Back in 2020 a friend of mine was diagnosed with Cancer and could no longer care for her 2 rats, Coco and Lasky. I had been feeding them in the holidays for a few months by then and was more than happy to take them in. What we knew was that Coco was the shy one and Lasky was the curious one, but this quickly changed as they got more confident. Coco was the brave little idiot, always getting in trouble. she once found a gap in the wall of the room and got into the sauna! I was afraid of being bitten so I always wore gloves, which was actually a good choice as Lasky once bit me VERY HARD and it would've been very painful without the gloves. We moved house in October 2020 and the rats moved into my new room with me. That's how I discovered just how loud they were at night, as they kept me up at night a lot. We even had to remove their water bottle and leave them with just a bowl because they kept banging it against the bars.
