Marcy knew the aquarium like the back of her hand. her routine was the same every day after all. She would enter with her year pass, try to spot all the spotted garden-eels poking their heads out of the sand, Watch the epaulette sharks swimming in the tank on the left and listen to the presentation about all the dangerous animals in the oceans while sketching one of the animals. Sure, she knew the presentation off by heart by now, but she enjoyed the comforting familiarity of it all. Marcy would end her trip outside, Watching the penguin feeding while fiddling with her short ginger hair. she had a dark green coat on, with little badges on the sleeve, including one from The Aquarium and one from a charity for ocean animals. She changed the animal on her charity badge every month and was always eager to tell people about that month's fish. Novembers was actually the very same sharks she loved to watch in the aquarium, the Epaulette shark. It's an incredible creature who is able to walk back into the water if it gets stranded on a beach. Marcy loved them.
The Golden Mountains
“She is cursed! A devil from the depths of hell!” The villagers would say, Cassandra’s mother trying hard to convince them her daughter was harmless. But alas it was futile. They had made up their minds. “Burn her! Send her back to the fiery pits she came from” one man screamed, met with cheers from the rest. “Please! She’s just a child!” Her mother begged. Cassandra couldn’t help it if she was born with the mark of the dragon hunters. Black markings cover the right side of her face, and her eyes were a deep purple. This was usually something people celebrated, but unfortunately for Cassandra the Village of Mirstone was unaware of what the markings truly meant. The rest of England was desperately searching for the dragon hunter child, only for Mirstone to cast her away. They held her mother back, screaming and sobbing as Cassandra was led into the forest, where the villagers hoped she would starve.
5 Tiny Faces
Back in 2020 a friend of mine was diagnosed with Cancer and could no longer care for her 2 rats, Coco and Lasky. I had been feeding them in the holidays for a few months by then and was more than happy to take them in. What we knew was that Coco was the shy one and Lasky was the curious one, but this quickly changed as they got more confident. Coco was the brave little idiot, always getting in trouble. she once found a gap in the wall of the room and got into the sauna! I was afraid of being bitten so I always wore gloves, which was actually a good choice as Lasky once bit me VERY HARD and it would've been very painful without the gloves. We moved house in October 2020 and the rats moved into my new room with me. That's how I discovered just how loud they were at night, as they kept me up at night a lot. We even had to remove their water bottle and leave them with just a bowl because they kept banging it against the bars.
AUTHORS NOTE: If you haven't read chapters 1 and 2 please read them first, or this wont make any sense. CHAPTER III Ashlynn woke up multiple times during the night. Sometimes she’d have to pick Mr. Dragon up off the floor or readjust the covers. She was shattered in the morning when Alaric woke her up for breakfast. She refused to get up for a while until Alaric said “Ashlynn you have to get up, we’re eating breakfast with my mother, if she doesn’t like you, she’ll lock you away in a tower somewhere. She only sees you as a pawn she can use to get what she wants, she thinks it’s generous she’s even letting you live like a normal person here!!” the panic in Alaric’s voice while he admitted his mother’s intentions is what truly woke her up. She opened her eyes to Alaric with his hair tied back properly, with hair gel, and he was wearing the fanciest suit Ashlynn had even seen anyone wear. She would’ve laughed if it wasn’t for the pure panic in Alaric’s eyes. “Son of a- “she groaned, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. “I made you this dress weeks before you arrived in preparation for today” Alaric mumbled shyly. “Made??” Ashlynn exclaimed. “Yeah, I like to sew in my free time” he replied, gesturing to the sewing machine. “This was my first time making a dress like this, so I’m sorry if it doesn’t look great, I just wanted to include some of my mother’s favourite things, like the colour blue and snowdrops and-“Ashlynn interrupted him with a laugh, her own little revenge for yesterday. “Alaric, its beautiful, there’s no need to freak out” she giggled. The dress was a pastel blue, with long sleeves. It covered up most of her skin, with a small slit up to about her thigh, to help with walking in a tight-fitting dress. There was a snowdrop embroidered under the left shoulder. The material was comfy, and still looked amazing. “I didn’t know you could sew” she breathed, still taking in the dress. She delicately hopped out of bed and wondered into the bathroom to try it on. Luckily for them it fit her quite well. She left the bathroom and gave Alaric a little twirl. “Thank goodness it fits” he sighed, “next time I make you something I’ll need your measurements” Alaric looked at the time and immediately started to panic “Ashlynn!! Quick put on those shoes, my mother will be at the table in 5 minutes!! We cannot be late!” he squeaked, quickly putting on his own shoes. He grabbed Ashlynn’s hand and started rushing through the palace halls. “A-Alaric! Slow down! I can’t run in heels!” Ashlynn spluttered, almost falling over. “Sorry!!” he whispered, slowing down to walk. He was squeezing Ashlynn’s hand a lot, a tell-tale sign that he was nervous. His anxiety only filled Ashlynn with fear. He was obviously terrified of his mother. They walked into a large room with a long table in the middle. There was a large crystal chandelier above the table. At the head of the table was an older woman, her faded blue hair tied up in a bun. She had a stern look on her face and a diamond crown on her head. She was wearing a blue dress as well, this one short sleeved and more flowy. “you’re late” she announced. “Sorry mother” Alaric whispered, before leading Ashlynn towards the table. They sat on the left side, with Alaric closer to his mother. They sat in silence until his mother said “I didn’t expect someone from inferno to be able to look… decent. Keep this up and maybe I won’t have to be embarrassed about people seeing you with my son” Ashlynn won’t lie, her comments stung a little. Ashlynn was too afraid to say anything to this woman, and for once it seemed, Alaric was too. Both of their futures lay in her hands, one tiny wrong move and she could smash them in front of their eyes. Just as Ashlynn felt like she might break down crying a maid hurried into the room. “queen Christina, King Ishaan is here to discuss the alliance” she stated. Ashlynn held her breath until Christina left the room before standing up. “m-my father??” she asked the maid, who nodded in response. She thought she’d never see him again, since she rarely even saw him when she lived in Inferno. She… didn’t want to see him again. She felt her hands push against the table as she thought about all her father had done to her. She felt hot as she scowled. The thought that her father came to Noblefrost without even telling her, just to prove he hates her. “Ashlynn!!” Alaric cried, pulling her from her thoughts. Her hands had almost burned their way through the table, and Alaric was gripping his hand in pain. “What the hell was that??” Ashlynn stared at him for a moment. It had been years since she’d let her powers get the better of her. Without saying a word, she ran back to their room, and locked herself in the bathroom. She sat in the bath and tried to hold back her tears. She’d never actually hurt someone she cared about with her powers before. Hold on, cared about. She frowned. No, Alaric is just some guy she’s being forced to marry, she doesn’t care about him! Right...? her thoughts went wild until there was a knock at the door. “Ashlynn...? its Sarah. Alaric told me you were here, are you alright?” she called. Ashlynn unlocked the door but didn’t open it. Sarah stepped into the room. “What happened?” she asked. “I… My father. He’s here in Noblefrost and didn’t tell me” Ashlynn started. “I started to think about the things he’s done to me. I got angry and sorta blacked out. When I came back to reality Alaric was on the floor and I’d burnt holes in the table. I panicked, so I came here”. Ashlynn sighed, twirling a small flame between her fingers, practicing keeping it under control. She was sitting in the bathtub, with her knees pulled up to her chest. Sarah stepped into the bath and sat opposite her. “Why don’t I give you that piercing? To take your mind off things” Sarah suggested. Ashlynn looked up at her and gave her a small nod.
Many years ago, the kingdom of Noblefrost ruled over the Island with an Iron fist. The floating city was only connected to the Island by a 3-meter-wide Ice bridge. The people in the city were all wealthy, and connected to the elements of ice and water, while the 3 elements that lived on the island, fire, earth, and life, were all poor. One day, the strongest decided to rebel, and the island was divided into cities, ruled by a king and a queen of the respective element. Though there was no fighting, none of the nation’s got along. They all went about their business, while being extremely weary of each other. Our story begins 1200 years after these events, with the youngest daughter of the fire kingdoms queen.
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I certainly couldn't hear their screams. I could see that they were screaming, it was clear by their open mouths and the pure terror in their eyes. It's hard to think that all my crewmates will be forgotten just like that. but it had to be done. My time will be up soon too. If you hear this, please go to the planet Yatreuvis and destroy the Necron camp. Free them. You are Our last hope.
Marley Marsh: Trapped on a Train
Kizu awoke with a start in the first class. Three other people were still passed out in the seats around her, but other than that the train was deserted. She knew these people, but she couldn't remember their names, nor where she met them. There was one girl, the person opposite her, and a boy next to her. The person diagonal from her was Nonbinary, that much she remembered. Kizu stood up, edged around the others as to not wake them and wandered down the carriage. There was a snack bar, but no one was working in it. She tried to open the door to the next carriage but it was stuck. "Who the hell are you?" said a voice from behind her. She spun around to see a person staring at her, a swiss army knife in hand. "I'm Kizu!" she squeaked. "Tasari Kizu.” The name felt important, but she could only remember that it was her name, not the importance surrounding it. "Tasari... that name is familiar" they said, lowering the knife. "Who are these other people?" they asked, backing away from the two. "I don't know" Kizu sighed, rubbing her head. She'd only now noticed how much it hurt. "I'm Marley. Marley Marsh" they said with a British accent, giving Kizu a small salute. "Wait... Marsh..." Kizu thought for a moment before it dawned on her. British, Marsh, this person was the child of Bradley Marsh, one of the richest people in the world and... The business partner of her mother! "Marley!" Kizu yelled, running towards them and pulling them into a hug. Marley was her best friend, how could she ever forget? Marley and their father often travelled to Japan so that Bradley could discuss things with Kizu's Mother. Meanwhile, Kizu and Marley were always left to play with each other. They didn't know what their parents discussed, but they didn't care, as long as they were together. So she knows Marley, but she doesn't know the other two? No, that couldn't be it. She must know the others too. Marley poked the boy in the face a few times. "Do ya think he's dead?" they asked, screaming when the boy opened his eyes and slapped their hand away. "I am not dead! My Father would be outraged if I were dead!" he cried. He was the most well dressed of the four, wearing a black suit and tie, without any creases. "I am Master Jiang of Yao bank and you people should feel blessed to be in my presence!" Marley and Kizu just stared at him for a while with disgusted looks on their faces. "Wait a moment..." Marley breathed. "I remember! Jiang Yao, Our parents work together!" they stood with their hands on their hips and laughed. "My mother tried to convince me to marry you in the future" Jiang stared at them for a while before gagging. "Marley Marsh! I wouldn't marry you if we were the last two people on the earth!" He looked at Kizu with the same disgusted look on his face. "You too, Tasari" The final person finally awoke, staring at the three angrily. "You three stop fighting! Haven't you noticed we are alone on this train in the middle of nowhere?" she hissed. "We aren't in the middle of nowhere dumbass!" Marley laughed. "We're in Switzerland! I recognised a town we passed when I first woke up. The question is - why are we all on a train in Switzerland?" Kizu tried the door on the other side of the Carriage. "This one won't open either..." she whispered. "Are we trapped in here?" the girl cried, pushing past Kizu to try and open the door. "Watch it!" Kizu hissed at her, trying to remember her name. Marley, on the other hand, had already raided the snack bar for food and drinks. They tossed some of the snacks to the others and started eating some chocolate themselves. "We should probably figure out why we're here" they began, "What do we all have in common?" The four thought for a moment before the last girl to wake up, gasped and shouted: "We're all from large businesses! Our parents are rich! Jiang's dad owns the largest bank in China, heck maybe even the world. Marley's family literally made a portal to another dimension, My mother is a scientist who discovered a way to cure dementia and extend the life span of a human to be over 150 years" - she sounded so smug talking about her mother - "And Kizu... Actually, I don't know what Kizu's mother does..." she shrugged and kept going. "The point is, we are all rich, famous and our parents work together!" Marley clapped squeaking with excitement. "Yes of course! Scarlett, you’re a genius! We've probably been kidnapped... Again." they sighed, sitting by the snack bar. "We can either wait for our parents to save us or try and get out ourselves, but it doesn't look like this train will be slowing down" Jiang Scoffed: "We are 18, we don't need our parents to save us!" He started banging on the windows and pulling on the doors. "But if we have been kidnapped then it might be easier to just wait it out. There's probably a ransom our parents have to pay to get us back. Kizu, Check the news, see if there's anything about us" Scarlett instructed. Kizu nodded and opened her phone, activating roaming data so she could check the news. Sure enough, they were on the front page of every news article. "Yep, we've been kidnapped. There's nothing about a ransom, though. Ugh, and they're misgendering Marley!" Kizu groaned. "I'll try calling my mother" She opened her mothers contact, but when she tried to call she got an error message in response. "That's weird..." she mumbled, trying to call her dad afterwards, but she got the same error message as before. Jiang was still hitting the windows, wincing in pain with every hit. "I am Yao Jiang! Open when I tell you to!" he screamed at the window, as if it could magically going to open on his command. "Jiang, can you stop that?! We don't want to break the window, at least not yet! Me and Scarlett are trying to think!" Marley shouted. "Can it, Marsh! You just want us to sit around and wait to be rescued!" he yelled back. The two of them started bickering even more ,but they both froze when the carriage door opened. They all went silent and stared at the shadow in the doorway. "Will four of you shut the hell up?" they hissed. "You're giving me a headache." The person walked in and reached out to grab Kizu's arm, but Marley, high on adrenaline, grabbed a glass from the snack bar and threw it at them, proceeding to hit them on the head, which made them growl in pain and turn to face Marley. "Now! Everyone, into the next carriage!" Scarlett yelled, also throwing a glass at the person. However, she missed and the glass broke on the floor in front of the person. Kizu kicked them in the back of the knee making them fall to the ground and the four passengers ran into the next carriage, while Marley was carrying as many snacks as they could. Jiang rapidly pressed the door closing button, making them close just before the person could catch up with the group. "Who the hell was that?" Kizu queried, stepping into the new carriage. Marley stepped in after her, their eyes opening with excitement. "Ahaha! Look at all this tech!" they squealed, inspecting the contents of the room. "But why is the tech from back home here? It even has our logo on it" they wondered, showing the logo to the others. Scarlett picked up a letter that was on one of the tables and read it out loud: "Dear Delilah Bloom, we at Marsh tech, have decided to give you Marley's Portal Tech in exchange for their safe return. Somehow we weren't able to locate them with our trackers. You win. From Bradley Marsh". Marely stared in horror. "What?! My father can't do that!" they whispered. "That tech isn't his to give!" To everyone's surprise, Jiang pulled Marley into a hug. "I'm sorry Marley. We will get out of here before they can give away your portal tech. I promise" he whispered. "Come on Marley, we need to keep going. If we can get to the front of the train maybe we can stop it and get out of here!" Kizu said, hoping it cheered them up. Marley nodded, grabbing some tools off of a seat and heading to the next door. "I can probably open the doors if you give me some time. I need to get through the walls first" they said, getting to work and trying to prise the wall open. Scarlett was with them, handing them tools and trying to find a way through the wall. "If I had my bag, I could make an Acid that could burn through the wall" she grumbled, but Marley shut them down. "It’s too risky! If it burned too much, it could damage the wiring." Scarlett nodded in response. "I feel so dumb around them" Jiang laughed. Kizu nodded in agreement. "Marley is the smartest person I know. If it wasn't for them, we'd still be trapped in the bitter land" she smiled thinking of her friends genius. "Don't be so hard on yourself Kizu! You helped so much!" Marley called out from the door. "Aha! I got it!" Marley grinned as the doors opened. They all hurried through. This carriage had piles of coins on every seat and table except one, where was another letter. They all looked at Jiang. He sighed, picking up the letter to read it to the group. "Dear Delilah Bloom. With this letter comes the money you asked for. There are exactly 1'000'000 Francs, no more and no less. Now return Jiang to me unharmed. Signed Yao Banks" Kizu picked up some of the coins. "One franc coins... Marely you don't think the tech in the other carriage was your portal tech, do you?" Marley shook their head. "I'd recognise that. That tech was just bits of my brother’s hoverbike. I spent hours putting it all together last year. I'd recognise it anywhere!" they laughed. "Wait. Why is my brothers bike here?" Their face fell when it dawned on them that it was their brother’s bike. The one that they had spent hours assembling. "Well at least it's not the portal…?" Scarlett mentioned in comfort. "Marley, can you open the next door? I just wanna get out of here" Jiang hissed as the train shook, knocking some of the coins onto the floor. They nodded and they got with Scarlett to work. "Kizu, have we passed any train stations? Where the hell are we going?" Jiang questioned. "I haven't seen any stations and Marley is the only one of us who's ever visited Switzerland, so only they could know where we are" Kizu replied. Suddenly, the person from before started banging on the door, making them all scream. "You’re all going to pay for this!" they yelled, their fist breaking the glass on the door. "Hurry Marely!" Jiang yelled, backing away from the door. "I'm almost there!" they squeaked, the door opening just as the person broke through. They all rushed through the connecting tunnel, closing the doors behind them. The carriage that they’ve entered was full of chemicals in test tubes. "This will be my carriage" Scarlett sighed, picking up the letter. "Dear Delilah Bloom. You have every illegal chemical I have experimented with. Now return Scarlett to me unharmed. I won't let you get away with this. Theresa Barker." Kizu picked up and looked at one of the vials. "Careful, Kizu! That was extracted from the Gympie Gympie plant, also known as the suicide plant! If that touches your skin, you'll feel a pain so intense it'll make you want to kill yourself!" Scarlett cried. Kizu grimaced and carefully placed the vial back on the table. "We need to keep going. Marley can you open the next door?" Jiang asked. Marley gave a small salute and said: "I'm on it!"
The Cabin Creature
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The local elders told the storied of the cabin. “Those who enter are never seen again!” they would cry. Its enough to keep the children away, but the teenagers aren't going to be fooled by some silly story. Parents just don’t want their children getting splinters on an old house, or running off to far into the woods, or talking to a stranger! Heidi and Gabriel grew up on the stories, and the night the candle burned they decided to end it once and for all. They were fed up with adults scaring children into submission. “Oh, don’t go to the cabin, you’ll never return! Don’t stay up past 12 or a monster will eat you! don’t ask more than 6 questions a day or the ground will swallow you up!” Heidi had had enough. When she and Gabriel returned from the cabin in the morning with video evidence that nothing bad happened to them parents would have to admit to all their lies! They packed their bags with torches, spare batteries, a few snacks and drinks and set off into the woods. They told all their friends where they were going, in hopes that they’d join them, but the chickens didn’t want to come. Heidi scoffed at their stupidity. Believing all that nonsense? She was glad Gabriel wasn’t that stupid. Their mission would save hundreds of children for being scared senseless, she thought more people would like that! But apparently not. People would rather be scared. They trudged through the forest alone on this moonlit night, two 17-year-olds determined to make it through the night without getting scared. Only babies would get scared of a house. The candle gleamed in the window leading the kids to the house with ease. Though the flame was bright, they couldn’t see inside the house at all. Heidi slowly knocked on the door and waited a few seconds for someone to answer. No one came. She reached out to knock again, but before her hand could reach the door it slowly creaked open. The two stepped into the house slowly, the door creaking shut behind them. To their surprise, the interior was clean and decorated, with a fire in the fireplace and two hot chocolates on the coffee table. there was an axe in a log next to the fire, and a sofa in the middle of the room. There was another door that led into a different room, but they decided to leave it be. The wall paper was green and pink, matching the floral pattern on the sofa. The mugs were on two wooden coasters on top of a white crocheted table cloth. Gabriel moved the camera around, recording everything they saw. Heidi picked up one of the hot chocolates and sipped it. “Mhh, sweet!” she grinned, sitting on the sofa and resting her feet on the table. “See! There’s nothing wrong with this house!” Gabriel nodded in response, filming Heidi drinking the hot chocolate. “Whose cabin do you think this is?” he whispered, placing the camera on the table facing them. He sat next to Heidi, but more tense than her. “Who cares? No ones been in here in years!” she laughed. “Then who made the hot chocolates?” Heidi paused for a moment. She placed the hot chocolate on the table and headed towards the other door. She opened it and called out: “hello?”
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. I would know. In my previous field journals I was studying the flora that thrived there. Now that the dragons are here it is far too dangerous to go back down there. My name is Amelia Moore, I am a researcher from a small village called Thurn. If you are reading this, I am most likely dead.
