How To Be More Effective At Work

We’ve all known that person who always seems to be getting things done. Whether a friend or a colleague, this is the person whose work is always done early. The one who somehow manages to finish hour-long tasks in 20 minutes. The one people describe as a robot or machine, because surely no simple human could work as quickly as they do.

And yet these people exist, cranking away at maximum efficiency. What do these highly productive people have in common? How do they do it?

They always seem to finish early. These people know how long things take, and they plan accordingly. Somehow, everything seems to get done before the deadline arrives.

Highly effective workers stay focused on their tasks until they’re completed. Distractions are the enemy of top performers, who block them out and stay on track. This can be difficult in an age where smartphones are always at the ready, but it’s possible with practice.

Highly effective people don’t procrastinate.

They know what is expected of them when, and they do it. They never put off until tomorrow what could be done today – because the truth is, tomorrow might not come for them.

Highly effective workers work throughout their lunch break. They know that a proper break will make them more productive when they return to their jobs, but they also know there’s no better time to get things done than when you have a little free time.

Highly effective workers never let their egos get in the way of their work.

It sounds like such a simple lesson, but it’s easy to get wrapped up in yourself and get defensive when feedback is offered. Highly effective workers embrace criticism, though, knowing that if they do, they will improve and grow.

They prioritize when they need to, then schedule activities that are dependent on one another when possible. This allows them to complete tasks in an efficient manner that minimizes stress and gives them a sense of accomplishment at the end of a long day.

Be highly effective at work by using seven specific habits:

1. Be proactive

The first step to being highly effective is to be proactive about your career and yourself as a worker. Instead of waiting for things to happen, go out there and make them happen!

2. Apply time management techniques that work for you

Everyone has different preferences on how to manage time and productivity. Figure out what works for you and stick with it!

3. Anticipate unmet needs in your job description and help fill them before you're told to

Nothing boosts your value as an employee more than anticipating the needs of your boss or company before they are even aware it is needed. Always be looking three steps ahead.

4. Keep a positive attitude and maintain a good level of enthusiasm to support this attitude

Nothing will piss off your boss faster than when you're grumbling about the smallest things in the office when they are trying to manage a crisis or demanding project. Be cheerful even in the face of adversity!

5. Don't micromanage

The quickest way to get the reputation of being a micromanager is by treating your employees like little children and dictating every move they make. Trust them and delegate responsibilities so that they can grow and improve their skills and knowledge base.

6. Learn how to communicate well, both orally and in writing

Communication is without a doubt the most important skill that every worker needs to know how to use, and productivity will suffer if you cannot communicate well with your peers and superiors.

7. Trust your instincts and make good decisions

When it comes down to a decision between what is right or wrong, do what feels best deep in your soul even if someone is pressuring you not to. You can't go wrong by doing what you feel is right.
