The steps you take are so important, in life, in relationships, and those first wobbly steps you take as a child. Learning to walk was probably difficult but yet now you walk easily now and each step you take is as important as that first one. Each step you take now, putting one foot in front of the other will help you bring harmony to your body and mind. With each step you will be focused on those things around you. Fully absorbed in the world that surrounds you, noticing the little things that you take for granted every day. This is your time; this is your walk and this is where it begins.

So, take that first step now and begin to notice how you reach a deeper level of awareness. Be aware of how your foot touches and meets the surface beneath it. Notice what it feels like when each part of your foot meets the ground. It is something that you learnt to do but something that now comes so naturally. You take the next steps now and a deep breath, filling your lungs completely and noticing how good it feels to be alive in this moment.

You can take these precious moments and use them to exercise your mind as well as your legs. But its not so much an exercise just a focus in the present to your immediate surroundings.

With each step you release something from you without even knowing it. You find your mind fully absorbed in the present, fully present in this moment and if it wonders you can just bring it back to the present, to this moment, the only moment that need concern you. You can learn to release anytime you wish. Just by first noticing that your mind has wondered, then taking a deep breath in and just releasing that thought to your surroundings, just realising that breath and with it any wondering thoughts.

Walking naturally and easily as your mind becomes free and focussed on you, your body, your mind coming together perfectly in this walk. Releasing all that needs to leave to you and feeling energised with each step.

Perhaps now you notice something imperfect about your surroundings, perhaps an uneven fence or a dent in the pathway and you look at this imperfection and smile, this reminds you how imperfections can provide unique beauty in a world where uniqueness is sometimes overlooked or seen as less than perfect. You study that imperfection, and you find yourself smiling. You recognise that happiness is a state of mind, it’s a synchronicity of mind and body and it is happening to you now.

As you walk breathing in and exhaling slowly it is as if your senses have been heightened. The rush of fresh air through your body as you breathe deeply cause you to begin to notice the different colours around you. One colour in particular catches your eye, you focus on it for a second or two, noticing the shape it forms noticing perhaps the different shades. You connect with this colour completely, positively and you notice how this colour makes you feel happy, warm and light.

For a moment now take your concentration to your breathing again, and to those sounds that you can hear, perhaps birds, perhaps cars. You can notice the layers of sound that are happening naturally around you, some loud and some quiet, the fabric of this moment woven together perfectly.

And as you breathe in again you notice the smells in the air around you. Your mindful walking allows you to relate to those smells as you feel your lungs filling with fresh air. And at this point in your walk you can notice how you feel, you feel connected to this moment, connected to the ground that you are walking on, connected to the colour that drew you in earlier, connected to the gravity keeping you in place.

You realise that each step provides you with the exact harmony, each toe to heel step provides you with the clarity to see this moment and more importantly to feel this moment exactly as you should. Breath by breath and step by step, you notice your mind and body in tune.

Your breath centres you, you feel happy. Your mind and body in tune, connected and grounded to the surface beneath your feet. Your body perfectly functioning, your mind fully engaged in this moment.

As your walk continues you pick out five things around you or within you to focus upon. Each of these relate to one of your senses, sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. Just five things in the coming steps that YOU specifically choose to relate to. Our senses tell us so much about the world around us and you fully tune in to each sense in turn. Some may come easily to you, others perhaps take a little longer but as you focus on each in turn you find that these come to you.

You may immediately know why you choose what you do or, it may come to you later. Those choices are made for a reason, perhaps you focus on a particular object and walk over to touch it, it provides you with a connection to a solution you have been searching for. And you may choose something that you have chosen before or will choose again tomorrow and that is perfectly fine. This is your choice; this is something just for you.

So, take your time now to decide upon those five things, engaging those senses and noticing what appears around you.

And tomorrow or the next day you may choose them again or something different because at each moment you may need to relate to something different.

Focussed on this moment you begin to return to where you came from, you have met your target of being fully committed to this moment, well done!
