Starting a lash extension business requires careful planning and attention to detail.

Here's a checklist to guide you through the process:

Research and Planning:

- Conduct market research to assess the demand for lash extensions in your area.

- Identify your target audience and competitors to understand the market landscape.

- Create a detailed business plan outlining your goals, target market, pricing, marketing strategies, and financial projections.

Legal and Regulatory Requirements:

- Register your business and choose an appropriate legal structure (sole proprietorship, LLC, etc.). The first couple years I was in business, I was a sole prop, now I am an LLC, and soon I will probably switch to s-corp. Talk to your Tax professional and business attorney to see what's the best option for you. It's really all about the taxes and how you pay yourself.

- Obtain any necessary permits or licenses required for operating a lash extension business in your locality.

- Check with local health departments for specific regulations related to sanitation and safety.

Training and Certification:

- Enroll in a reputable lash extension training program to learn the proper techniques and safety protocols. I suggest doing this in person if possible.

- Obtain certification from a recognized lash extension association to enhance your credibility. Clients love seeing this and feel confident that you are qualified.

Sourcing Quality Products:

- Research and select high-quality lash extension products, including lashes, adhesives, and other accessories. My professional favorites are; London Lash, Bella Lash, Mega Lash Academy, and Lash Box LA.

- Check each supplier out thoroughly. Look at reviews, shipping, inventory, pricing, and if they seem like a good fit.

Setting Up Your Workspace:

- Design a comfortable and inviting lash studio that complies with all safety and hygiene standards. Remember that most of your clients will fall asleep, so think cozy and quiet.

- Invest in the necessary equipment, such as a lash bed or recliner(my favorite), lighting, and ventilation, to create a professional atmosphere.

Pricing and Services:

- Determine competitive pricing for your lash extension services based on market research and the quality of your work. I look at the top 5 lash studios near my location and compare.

- Create a menu of services, including various lash styles and lash fills, to cater to different client preferences.

Marketing and Branding:

- Develop a strong brand identity, including a business name, logo, and website. What makes your brand different than similar businesses around you? Be unique. Pro Tip- Pick a name that's easy to say.

- Utilize social media platforms and digital marketing to promote your lash extension business and attract clients. Your first 5 models can give you tons of photos/videos to use.

- Consider offering promotional discounts or referral incentives to attract initial customers. This is great for when you introduce yourself to local businesses around you.

Client Consultation and Consent:

- Create a comprehensive client consultation process to understand their needs, preferences, and any potential allergies or sensitivities. Consultations are so important, get a good system down.

- Obtain written consent from clients before providing any lash extension services. This can be done online or in your spa.

Hygiene and Sanitation:

- Implement strict hygiene practices and maintain a clean and sanitized workspace.

- Follow proper sterilization procedures for your tools and equipment.

Client Retention and Customer Service:

- Provide exceptional customer service to retain clients and encourage positive reviews and referrals. Be consistent with everything. Your clients rely on you being on time, available and the best in the area.

- Offer loyalty programs or discounts for repeat customers.

Insurance:

- There are many companies, but my go-to is Associated Skincare Professionals. My link is Here.

- Consider getting liability insurance to protect your business in case of any unforeseen incidents. ASCP also offers this along with service liability.

Continuous Education:

You will be taking some kind of advanced education throughout the rest of your career. I usually do it once a year or once every couple of years.

- Stay updated with the latest trends, techniques, and products in the lash extension industry. This is easy to do with social media and classes.

Remember, starting a lash extension business requires dedication, hard work, and a commitment to providing top-notch services. By following this checklist and continuously improving your skills, you can set the foundation for a successful and thriving lash extension business.
