There are many reasons why your million dollar idea never made a million dollars. Maybe you started without a marketing plan or budget. Maybe you thought what you were interested in would appeal to more than the 5 - 10 people that liked your posts on social media.

Most people never make it out of the planning stage and the longer they plan, the more self doubt takes hold, leaving them with the one and only outcome possible. That’s right, an idea that’s DOA.

But for those of you that make it past the first hurdles of insecurities and decide to dive in, many make a series of dream crushing mistakes that lead to the infamous self sabotage.

It often starts like this..

People Half Ass Try and Get Half Ass Results

The first thing they say is, I’ll try this for 3 months and see if it works.

They’ve already decided on a ‘I Quit!’ date. Is that not the definition of self sabotage? What if the idea takes more than 3 months to gain any resemblance of traction? What if you just barely started to figure out your marketing plan and strategy. Because you start with the I quit date that allows you to give up, you end up focusing on that date and looking for signs that will reinforce this date to be the true, I’m shutting this bad boy down date.

You don't want that.

The Self Sabotage Mantra

  • I’ll give it a shot!
  • I’ll try this out.
  • I’ll make lots of money right away.
  • Everyone’s going to love this.
  • This is going to be so easy.
  • This is going to be so much fun.

Doing something new is not easy, it’s not fun and it’s hard to make money right away when you have little experience doing or building it for yourself. See the keywords in that sentence? Building it for yourself. That's right, you have to build your success.

What about, I'll give it a shot, or I’ll try it out? Those are half ass commitments. They’re not going to get you too far.

Here's what I want you to do. Read each bullet point and if you’ve said or even thought of any of these in the past, do 5 push ups for each one. Exercise is an important element for building the mindset for success, just so you know.

3 times…

3 choices growth mindset

Here is another self sabotage. People love to try something 3 times. It’s the magical number. 3 attempts before they give up, 3 strikes and you’re out, but the problem is, they do the same thing each attempt then wonder why nothing ever changes.

If you try the same strategies and methods that didn’t work the first time, the second time, and the only thing you changed was the app or social media site then you probably are still doing the first try. You haven’t really tried again.

Here’s the Worst One

They find something that works and they keep doing that over and over again until they become a dinosaur. Growth mindset means you need to evolve and adapt to an ever changing environment. Routine is the grower and killer of your ideas and success.

Even your morning routine needs to change as you become more successful in life. It needs to challenge you once you get comfortable with it. If your life is on autopilot then you're no longer growing, you’re just maintaining.

What is the Answer?

If you want to be more successful you have to want to succeed. You can’t limit the time it will take or your commitment to achieving it. You simply have to decide you will accomplish your goal and then take action.

You need to be creative and take risks. I know, that’s another mental hurdle people have. They need to be perfect. We cover ways to overcome that in your Mindset for Success training, you will know how to eliminate that once you’ve completed the training.
