My Enemies Are Blind People

Blindness isn’t always the absence of sight.

Jona Wells’s bestseller, ‘My Enemies Are Blind People,’ was too expensive for nineteen-year-old Lorie Malcolm to purchase immediately. So, she planned on saving her tips from her part-time waitress job to buy her copy. She was hoping to get it autographed shortly.

Arriving at the small diner she worked an hour early, Lorie sat in the back doing her homework when her manager said, “I need you now,” throwing an apron toward her. She caught it like a pro with one hand. She then closed her books and put them inside her backpack, which she put in her locker behind the kitchen.

“Table number nineteen in The Den needs you now,” Jack Malord, her boss, demands.

She strolled to The Den after putting her apron on, grabbing her notepad and pen. The Den was a private section of the restaurant that regularly hosted celebrities who wanted to enjoy their meal peacefully. She was shocked to see Jona Wells. He was more handsome in person as he smiled at her, showing polished white teeth. His light brown eyes got lighter as she approached. He was comfortably attired in soft pink sweatpants with a matching top. A pair of pink and grey loafers adorn his feet.

Nervously, Lorie took his order, then hurried into the kitchen.

Half an hour later, trembling, he noticed and assisted her as she served him, then encouraged, “sit down.”

Lorie obeyed, grabbing a deep breath.

He stared at her while eating. He said a few mouthfuls and swallowed later, “your nervousness tells me you have a question.”

“How can your enemies be blind people?” sprung from her thoughts and shot through her mouth without the signal from her brain. She covers her mouth quickly.

He giggled, reached over, eased her hand away from her mouth, and then shared, “My enemies are really sighted humans who are unaware of the life they are living and the deadly results of many of their actions, choices and decisions.”

“But how?” Lorie asked. “As a student of psychology, our lack of awareness in any area of our life and living can be a weapon of mass destruction.”

“Most people I know aren’t aware of many things they do,” he shares, taking a break to chew his steak. He took a sip of his red wine and continued, “because of lack of awareness, they will always be caught off guard, thus handing victories on a silver platter to their enemies.”

Smiling in understanding, Marie said, “They are blindly unaware of the life they are living.”

“Blindness isn’t always the absence of sight,” he said, wiping away the gravy from his left chin. “It is also the absence of awareness, common sense, understanding, wisdom, knowledge and many other vital elements that is necessary to prolong life. Many humans are just living without a sense of what life is. They are cruel, hateful, thoughtless, greedy, and have a long list of hostile actions that add pain to their lives, and they are still blind to their actions. They add harmful elements and efforts to our world and the lives of others and are unaware of doing it!”

“So, if they are blindly unaware of their actions, then they won’t be able to see Satan coming with fire in his hands,” slipped from Lorie’s thoughts as her grandmother’s words seeped into her brain, “your enemy must never see you coming.”

“Wise words,” Jona compliments.

“My grandmother believes the only way to win the battles humans wage against her is catching her enemies off-guard,” Marie said, welcoming the memories of her late grandmother. “And that has helped her to win many battles.

“Wise woman, good legacy and not hard to do,” Jona compliments, cutting into his steak.

“I wasn’t aware how destructive humanity’s lack of awareness can be,” Lorie remarked.

“Visually impaired humans other four senses are heightened because of their lack of vision. So instincts and their survival intentions add a few more senses to their brain making them more aware and sensitive to many things, sighted people can’t see or do.”

“Like, they can’t see life coming.” Marie states.

Jona smiled and added, “now that actually makes sense. Their lack of awareness robs them of their vision to see life coming.”

A package was delivered to the diner addressed to Lorie one week later. It was a free autographed copy of Jona Wells’s book ‘My Enemies Are Blind People.’

He wrote, ‘Your grandmother was right. She should be a five-star General.”

Lorie smiled, pulling the book to her chest.

Gosh, I can’t stop writing about AWARENESS because many humans in my life add pain to it by their lack of ability to see life as they live it. Can you see life as you are living it?
