The Secret To Life

"Looks like you had one too many".... "Nah, not enough"

Very few people are good at keeping secrets. It goes against human nature to keep valuable information to yourself. Thats why it is so damn difficult. Telling secrets and spreading information has been a vital part of human evolution and survival throughout the centuries. If there were ever a secret that should not be kept to oneself, it would be this one... The secret to this crazy little thing called life. MODERATION. Ten letters placed together in a certain order to combine into one simple word that you have heard hundreds of times and never completely comprehended its importance. One word that can have a drastic impact on your quality of life. One word that can be the key to unlock the secret extraordinary happiness. One word that can make us all sing the highest of praises... Big things, tall things, short things, small things, any and all things in MODERATION.

So, what is moderation? The technical definition is the avoidance of excess and extremes. This brings to mind that same ole saying everyone has heard all their lives, "too much of a good thing is bad." Some people may say it slightly different but the message is the same and can also be applied to not enough. If too much of a good thing is bad, and not enough is worse, then too much of a bad thing is horrible and not enough is... who the hell knows? When the concept of MODERATION is placed into any general equation, the outcome will always be the same. Good and bad, are like black and white mixed together to become grey. MODERATION can bring peace and harmony into the world and easily replace death and distruction which makes this blue marble on which we live a much better place to reside. What is good and what is bad should not decided by the "what" it should be decided by "how much."

Of course, MODERATION is different for everyone because people are as unique as snowflakes and one persons magic number will not be the same as the next. It is up to you to find perfect amount of whatever it may be for yourself. This basic philosophy, when properly used, can create your very own personal utopia and can be applied to anything, and that means anything. Cottonballs for example, lets do the math. First, how many cottonballs is too many? Well, the average human body can withstand 400 pounds of pressure, per square inch if gradually increased, so however many cottonballs it takes to generate that much weight on top of a person, could be a good argument for how many is too many. Secondly, how many is not enough? Well, if the bag is empty and little Jimmy needs them for his 1st grade art project, and mommy also needs them to remove her fingernail polish, it is safe to say that zero is not enough. However, if daddy stops by the dollar store on his way home from work and picks up a single bag of those usually unimportant, mundane little white balls of cotton, then Peter Rabbit can have his cottentail, which means little Jimmy can get an A on his art project and mommy can remove her fingernail polish which means her nails will be matching the dress she had already picked out, crisis overted, daddy gets lucky and everybody wins with MODERATION.

What about the other side of the fence? Illegal drugs are bad, right? But legal drugs are... good? Is that a statement or a question? Its bad when the author isnt even sure. Who desides which drugs are good and which drugs are bad? Well, technically the government does but they basically give a pill form of meth to children and call it medicine, so what the hell do they know? Shoudnt each individual have some say in what is bad and what is good for themselves? Drugs can give you energy or make you sleep, they can help you concentrate or make your mind run wild. Drugs can take you on a magical journey or help you get a grip on reality. Which ones are legal and which ones are illegal? Well, it depends on if the government can make money off of them or not, whether they will admit it or not. Cocaine, good or bad? Depends on who you ask. If you ask your average southern baptist grandma, definitely bad. But Pablo Escobar didnt get rich off of his looks and there are lots of people that use cocaine. However, quite a large chunk of those users have probably ruined their lives with this particular drug and they too might say that it is bad. But none of that matters because its not the substance that is bad or good, its the amount of the substance. Those who can moderate their usuage and not lose control and can continue taking care of their responsibilites as well as have a little fun on the weekends with a little nose candy are the ones who have this "life" thing, figured out.

So thats it. MODERATION. Too much or too little of anything can be bad for you. Even something that seems as harmless as a cottonball. Even vegitables, whether you eat too much or you fall into a grain silo, bad. Exercise. Just ask Hank Gathers what can happen if you push yourself too hard with a heart problem. Its up to you to decide how much is too much or how much is not enough. You have to learn your limitations and its perfectly acceptable for none to be your magic number if you cant control yourself with it. Never take anyones word for it though, you have to find out for yourself. How else can you form an accurate opinion if you dont have first hand expirience? Just because something works or doesnt work well for someone is in no way justification that it will or wont work for you. So think about it. Not too much or you will over analyze it and start picking holes in this wonderful philosophy and not too little or you will just forget it and never get back the time you just wasted reading this article, MODERATION.
