Chase The Lion
This is a book that I highly recommend for any and everyone who has a dream. It is faith based. It very inspirational and motivating. It imposes that we should not only dream big but have the courage to go after our dreams as well. We often hear that life is what we make it. Because ultimately life is about choices... I’m not very religious but I do have spiritual beliefs. The Bible says faith is the substance of things hoped for with the evidence of things not seen.

You Are Enough
I am continuously inspired by others' selfish motives, to seek that which makes me content within my own self. However, the older that I become and the more that I learn from the lessons that I am meant to learn, I am beginning to see that there are those of us that are truly meant to be alone. This is not a thing to be looked upon negatively. I find myself thinking that I am one of the lucky few. I am becoming more aware of myself, and I am relying on others for emotional, mental, and spiritual affirmation, or stability, less and less every day.

We Wear The Mask!
Home of the Afraid! Land of the Enslaved! This is AMERICA! At least that's how it is for US. It is Monday, June 15, 2020 and we are still screaming #blacklivesmatter! To answer your question: is racism still alive? Open your Eyes and STOP IGNORING US! Yes it is! Newsflash... Racism will NEVER DIE! Why you say? Because racism is taught and you will always have those who just will never accept change! But what we can do is place our focus on those who do want and who are searching for actionable change! Not just talk! Just like a racist was taught to hate, we can teach him/her to learn to love themselves again.

The Last Lecture: The Wonderful Life of Randy Pausch
In 10th grade, our teacher emailed us a video. She told us that we were to watch it once at home, and the following day at school, she would show it to us again before asking us a series of questions based on it. I was curious as to what exactly I would be watching: perhaps it was a re-enactment of a scene from As You Like It (the play we were studying at the time), or a scene from an iconic movie. However, to my surprise, it was a clip from an old episode of Oprah, where a man named Randy Pausch reprised a lecture he had given earlier at Carnegie Mellon University dubbed 'The Last Lecture'.

Hustle Believe Recieve
This book was recommended to me by someone very close to me who I consider to be a mentor. It was January 2020 and I had been struggling, to say the least, with my mental wellness. And this was pre quarantine... I struggle with Manic Depression, Generalized Anxiety, PTSD with a tendency toward neuroticism and S.A.D. This bout had been particularly bad and I felt myself sliding backward over all the progress I had previously made. I had left my job of three years that June after a co-worker turned practically mother, best friend and confidant suddenly passed away of a heart attack. In my grief, I was able to see how working 84 hours a week, 12 hours a day 7 days a week for a month straight not to mention the ever changing schedule between dayshift, swing and graveyard was wearing on my family life, and my boys were acting out at home. It was time for a change. I had a wild summer thereafter of making manic decisions some of which I am still living with the consequences of to this day. (facepalm)I quit my job, I started and quit two or three more jobs in the course of six months, I impulse spent all my savings, I got a dog during the most tumultuous time (though I would do that again 1000x over) I took two impulse trips one of which I didn't tell anyone about. I cut people off and made friends with strangers (something I would never normally do) I finally started to settle my ass down and found the perfect job for me (medical transport) with flexible hours, great pay and benefits. I get the job, and I go through like 40 hours of training which by the way, cost in total like, 300 bucks and I was building a great relationship with my boss then BAM! The City of Portland denies my certification request even though they had approved my permit. I appeal this decision and get a court date set for months out. That felt like such a huge setback and it was all the excuse my ego needed to justify sliding into a fully depressed state in which I don't leave my house for weeks. I don't file for unemployment or any other benefits like I know I should. I cancel all plans, I stop answering the phone. I don't wash or brush my hair. I'm suddenly into my like, twentieth time of watching Game Of Thrones after binge-watching for what could have been the one-hundredth time Tru Blood and I realize I need to pull myself out of it. I reach out because that's all I have the energy for at that moment. Yet I know I don't want to 'feeling dump' on anyone, I just need a little direction toward some actionable steps I could take to get back on track.

Quietness and Humbleness... Are still important?
Where is the Substance? Why are extroverts spoken of at this time as stronger than those who are naturally reserved? Maybe the screaming YouTube or Tiktok superstars and their big fans have given people the wrong impression, but in the silence, there is an absolute form of strength that few take the time to get to know it.

Scintillating Scents Candle Co.
Hey guys, I’m pretty new here but I hope this inspires someone to start there own company. My name is Alexis, I’m 23, and I own Scintillating Scents Candle Co. As most of you are going through the same thing as me, then I know this situation has brought some hard times your way. In simple terms, this time is the very reason I started my company, but it’s not that simple. Let’s start at the beginning! When I was 21, I started working two jobs to try and help me get to where I wanted to be. I worked both days and nights every day, and that took a toll on me, both mentally and emotionally. I had moments when I would pray and cry because it felt like I was doing everything right, and it wasn’t paying off, but I continued. I worked two jobs for three years. I would look around, and it seemed that everyone I knew was getting everything they wanted, and here I am, struggling. I don’t want to make my first story too long, so let’s fast forward! So here we are in 2020, and I just knew this year is going to be great- think again, right? At this point, I was tired of working altogether, but I had to; it’s not like I had another source of income if I left both jobs. As I said, it was taking a toll on me mentally and emotionally but never spiritually because my faith is a lot stronger than anything else. One day out of nowhere, I said I was going to start my own company and guess what it was going to be perfume! Perfume lol! I thought, and said, I have to look into something I like, and I thought about candles. I did as much research as I could, and then I ordered a small kit and made three candles, and they came out great. I was excited; I could see how far my business was going to take off. I bought everything I needed to make them and started my Instagram and Facebook business pages. OMG!! I was so excited. I just started making more and trying to build my social media presence and all, and I was proud of myself. As much financial help, my company will be, it has also shown me new things about myself. So here I am 23 years old starting my own business and still learning. I hope by me starting my own company inspires others, especially little girls, to want to do the same. To show them that they can do anything they put their minds too and that nothing is too hard for them as long as they believe in themselves and go for it. I do wish that this was something I thought of or decided to do when I was a little younger, but I cant wait to see where and how far my business goes. So that is just a little about me, my company, and how it began. I cannot wait to tell you guys more about my journey, whether it is talking about something positive or not that is going on within my company. I look forward to using this as an outlet to express myself with whatever I may be going through in regards to being a business owner. Also, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you are more than welcome to contact me via scintillating_scents (Instagram), Scintillating Scents Candle Co. (Facebook), or [email protected] (email). Do not forget most importantly, to shop shop shop with scintillatingscentscandle.com!!!

"A life lived is a life decided" - Brenna
When you live the life you decide, you live with eyes open. Before entering into this journey with my fiance Cannon Outlaw, every morning was a rude awakening. My dreams seemed to be more intriguing to me than the life I was living. It was as if i was on repeat, never engaged in my decisions, never engaged in my interactions, totally detached until I closed my eyes once more for sleep.
