Reminder
Ray was driving his wheelchair down the ocean front sidewalk in Corpus Christi. All around him can you speak people were walking, laughing, and just enjoying the cool weather and the breeze coming off the ocean. Ray was a quadriplegic with what was called arthrogryposis which had made it difficult for him to travel and had never seen the ocean before today. He had come to Corpus Christi to try and clear his head after his stressful time, which included fighting depression as well as PTSD. As he passed the Selena statue he slowed down and just listen to the waves as they lapped against the concrete wall that held up the sidewalk. Water had always had a calming effect on him, he had always loved being in and around the water, being in the water was the only time that he could be out of his wheelchair and still be upright.

Gratitude Bootcamp
You've got to get real about your wellness routine once you turn fifty because under-eye concealer and butt-lifting yoga pants can only do so much. That's why I've joined my own Gratitude Bootcamp. In just one month of journaling, I've lost a lot of negative weight.

Where Do I Go Now?
Ending 2020 felt like running a marathon that you have not trained for and were forced to finish. I trudged that final .2 miles, and I just wanted to collapse. Even though it may be arbitrary, I woke up on January 1st, 2021, and I felt lost. This tremendous mountain of a year that shook every part of our society had wholly disconnected me from so much, has also been a forced point of introspection. About our community, about what we owe to one another, about how I can force myself into a more positive place even when it all feels hopeless. I felt this idea acutely around my wellness routines. For the past few years, I’ve been on the perpetual diet cycle, the continuous millennial workout classes, and this year stopped all of that.

Hard Work
When was the last time you had a day when even your coffee needed coffee? A day when your childhood punishments such as: going to bed early, not leaving the house, or not going to a party became your adult goals? Was that day today? A week ago? A month ago?

Thank You Vocal For Giving Me a Mountain to Climb. Top Story - January 2021.
Writing is hard work done in solitary aloneness with the hope that others will find your words appealing. Reaching those significant others can be almost impossible without a mountain-like platform from which to speak.

Rising star in the making
I had every reason to start 2021 feeling empty, lonely and most of all, hopeless. I spent Christmas in isolation because of testing positive for Covid, my grandmother passed just before we welcomed the new year and for the first time in my life I lived 2000 kilometers away from my family and friends, all of which lead me to anxiety and inner turmoil. Looks bad, does it not? Well, like Nietzsche said, one must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star.

Sometimes, Being Productive is like Hitting Your Head Against a Wall.
I am a perfectionist. There is no doubt about that. Though mysteriously, not about every aspect of my life. I don't really mind if my room is a mess, and it doesn't bother me that sometimes the home for my clothes is the floor and not neatly folded in a drawer.

Thru-Hiking UK with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Ten years ago, or thereabouts, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. An often underestimated and overlooked auto-immune disease which can be deadly. You wouldn't think it. But it's there, in the literature, how bad it can be. Trust me, I've read the literature...and formed every excuse I can think of from those warnings.

The Little Black Book
"OMG, Skye! Your book is sooooooo good. I knew you could do it", read one of many Facebook comments in a post I was tagged in. Immediately, my stomach started to knot. I'd been writing mini-memoirs since the sixth grade. At this point after writing for so long, my little composition notebook was so raggedy, the white splotches from the original print were also black with pen marks. What's going on? What are these people talking about? Who tagged me!? I'd just gotten off of the Greyhound, I'd previously sworn to never go back on, and I hadn't reunited with my folks in Chicago yet. Oh my goodness, I can only imagine what my people are saying!
