Hood Rich
my bank account sits at over $1,000. it'll be gone before tomorrow. this is the case for many people my age -- millennials working grueling 9-5 shifts just to barely make ends meet. every month, i'm holding my breath about a week before payday, wondering how little we can eat that week. every month, late fees accrue as i push off yet another credit card payment in favor of going to the dentist, or getting an oil change, or just buying groceries.

The Scent of Leather
Living in a small town has its perks. Avoiding the hustle and bustle of city life among a sense of community and familiar faces makes this town feel like home. As much as I appreciate the friendly smiles and welcoming voices, going unnoticed at times is just as important to me.

3 Steps to Achieving Your True Potential
Working to achieve our true potential or understanding what that is for each of us personally, can at times feel like searching for the Holy Grail. It’s hard to know where to start, or what to focus on when you explore that question for yourself. As a result, you may find that you drift along with life, and it may even be hard to feel confident about what to specifically focus and build on. That then can cause us to do things for all the wrong reasons. Which can have the knock on effect of leaving you with little motivation or engagement for the things you do actually engage in.

Musings of a Southern Writer’s Journey
I am an unabashed lover of books. My journey into the world of words began when I was five years old, and I have never stopped. Granted at five, the books I read were golden or comic, but I loved each of them. As I grew older, I progressed from Chip ’n Dale and Justice League of America comics to reading Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and The Adventures of Tom Swift. A neighbor, Miss Boozer, a retired librarian, recognized my passion for reading and on my birthday and at Christmas gave me money to buy books, several books. I liked her.

Daydreams vs Grey Realities
On top of the fact that I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and PTSD a month ago, breaking up with my boyfriend yesterday and it hasn’t even been a full twenty-four hours, I just got fired today from a new job I got. I had my first two training-emphasis on “training”- days just last week, one on Thursday and again on Saturday. It is now Monday.

Don't Miss Your Shot
Don’t take your eyes off the dream. During one of our mountain trips, while my daughter Journey was fishing, we spotted a bald eagle perched on a tree branch on the other side of the pond. It was too far of a distance to take a good picture, so I decided to take the walk to the other side to get closer. I kept my eye on the eagle as I rounded the pond and hoped it wouldn’t fly away before I got there. Once I neared the spot, I looked down for a few seconds just to make sure there were no snakes in the high grass surrounding the tree. When I looked back up, the eagle was gone. Disappointed, I turned to walk away. Journey yelled, from across the pond, “take the picture.” I yelled back, “it’s gone." Still, she kept pointing and saying that it was there. I knew she was wrong. I was standing right next to the tree and the branch was empty. Besides, a big bald eagle is not something you miss. I turned to walk away and she yelled even louder and kept pointing. I was sure she was seeing a leaf formation or something, because the eagle wasn’t there. Then I heard a loud noise and the eagle swooped down and flew off. It had been there all along.

The Lost Message Of Carpe Diem - Quam Minimum Credula Postero
We’re all familiar with the phrase ‘carpe diem’, it’s hard not to go into any high street shop without seeing the Latin aphorism branded on the side of bread boxes or tea towels. It can be effective in awakening the reader to their lust for life but also on it’s own it can seem a little empty. However, carpe diem was actually a shortening of the full sentence which read ‘carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero’, which translates as ‘seize the day, put very little trust in tomorrow’.

A DAY TO REMEMBER *Alarm * As I peel my heavy eyes open and wipe the sleepiness from them, I catch sight of the time 8:15am! I can’t believe I slept through every alsrm I set, I knew staying up finishing this project for Mr.Tade was a terrible idea. As I run through my studio collecting my purse and papers, shoving slacks and a blouse on, I take a sip of last night cold coffee and head for the door. Running and biting my purse trap to hold it in my mouth holding with one arm all of last nights regrets; I throw my hand up and wave the first taxi over. As I jump in and throw out my work address to the driver, I toss my stuff in the seat next to me and start to put my hair in a ballerina bun to hide my shame. Applying my makeup while hitting New Yorks roads was a skill only few can master, and I was not one. Finishing my lipstick the taxi pulls to the side “14.80” the driver said. I threw a 20 at him grabbed my stuff and ran into the building. The meeting had started already, I pulled my seat slowly and sat down everyone not daring to look my way to draw attention for Mr.Tade. “Miss Dasson I see you choose to finally join us today, since we are already half way through why don’t you go ahead and present my project.”

The Hidden Message
At 17 years old Dee was a confused teenager in her senior year of high school. She had just found out she was pregnant. “What am I going to do with a baby”? She thought quietly as she stared at the pregnancy test. Her mom had tried to tell her about the birds and the bees, and the many things that could go wrong by having a child at such a young age. As the tears streamed down her face she felt lost. “ Why didn’t I listen to my mom, why was I so hard-headed?”, she thought to herself. She had so many plans, to finish school, go to college and get a degree as a business professional. That night Dee stayed in her room crying all night long not knowing what her life would turn into. She didn’t even know how to contact the father of her child since they had stopped speaking a month earlier. The next day Dee slowly walked to her mom’s room where her mom was peacefully studying and knocked on the door. “ Come in girl, why do you look so down?” Her mom looked at her with a confused but concerned look in her eyes. “Mom I’m pregnant”, she whispered. “What did you just say, speak up”? Her mom asked. “Mom I’m pregnant”! As the tears filled her moms’ eyes, Dee knew she had broken her mom’s heart. “Dee, I love you and although I’m hurt we will figure this out together”.
