Keeping Sane In a World That Is Insane

How do you even begin? It seems as if everything you have is falling apart, or just not fitting into your lifestyle. Society loves to play its daily role in our lives: "Dress like this, and the guys will adore you!" "With opinions like that, you will never have friends." "I need to gain weight because the world loves thick girls now." How can you even be yourself if you don't have a support system?

Here's the answer: YOU! Yes, you! No one knows you better than yourself. Parents and best friends will say they know us the best, but let's be honest: we still have our inner voices that we battle with each day, that no one will truly understand. But, back to the topic at hand!

You already know how you operate. You already know what keeps you calm and relaxed. You know what keeps you sane, so you won't go insane. What are your favorite things to do? Do you like music? How about practicing mediation? Do you journal? Do you pray? Does the company of your friends ''free'' you? Write down what you love to do that brings you joy, peace, and happiness. Take notes of what keeps you in tune with your body and mind. In this world that we reside in today, negative vibes and individuals consistently surround us, and pick at us constantly. Escape to your 'home away from home' by doing what you love and giving it your all. Find your center, and remain there until you have found happiness. Another way for escape is being around your family. For some, this is how they feel at one with themselves, as well as feel free.

Doing any of these activities is great for your mental health. Too many stresses and unnecessary things can really weigh down the mind. It leads to unneeded health issues and concerns, along with unfortunate events that do not need a place in your life. Surrounding yourself with like-minded, positive, influential people can elevate your mood, and make you more productive! This helps keep your mind clear and relaxed. It will give you a sense of euphoria. You'll begin to think if what you're feeling is even real (probably because you haven't felt this way in a long time).

Being the individual that I am, I am always striving for perfection. It's in my DNA. This is not always a good thing. In the past, I always paid attention to others, and how society perceived women to be: submissive, always wearing makeup, being skinny, housewife, etc. I began to change my thinking when I started to realize who I was. This world's insanity and unpredictability no longer had control over my thinking. I began to practice self-care methods. Once I found what I liked, I kept at it. My mind became mine again, and my thoughts followed accordingly.

I began to think differently. I wanted a more natural feel. I began spending time with myself. This is how I got to know Brianna, and how I can get to know her better! I prayed more, read my Bible more, and began to have more conversations with God. Once I got closer to Him, He became closer to me! I found out that this is one sure way (for me) to have continuous peace and happiness in this world. It gives me a sense of euphoria.

I also listened to my music even more; not just for recreational purposes, but for emotional purposes. I used my music to connect with myself, my feelings, my body, and my thoughts. Music helped me release any tension and anger built up inside me. Once I connected with my other half, I felt better. It's a feeling that helped me become even more comfortable with Brianna.

To this day, I still practice these methods. Now don't get me wrong, I still have my days where I feel sad, lonely, angry, bitter, etc. I just found my niche on how to get myself out of that slump. You can too! Take some time for yourself, and you'll be surprised at what you discover! Keeping sane in a world that is insane is a challenging task for all of us. But nothing worth having comes easy. Your mental being is so precious, and you must preserve it. You all can do this! Stay positive, and be blessed!
