My name is Rumi From a child I was a rather calm and shy girl Like many girls who grew up in rural India villages my life was normal My family lived in a small village with lack of opportunities and lots of fighting However I had a dream of not wanting to give up no matter how difficult it was My father was a farmer and my mother took care of the household and led me and my brother We did not have much money but our home was full of love and care I went to village school and the course was often difficult In our community the formation of a girl was not a priority Most families believed that a girls fate was easy to marry but deep inside I always felt that my life could be more than that I dreamed of doing other things With this determination I continued my studies even if it was not easy We did not have electricity all the time so I often studied the weak light of kerosene lamps But I never gave up My only goal was to move forward no matter what happened To support my family and my research I volunteered to join local NGOs When I began to see more of the world around me I have found that many girls are in the same cycle housework early marriage no voice or freedom I started talking to them tried to inspire them and told them that if they had the will they could change their future One day a cultural event was held in our village I first appeared on stage with a group of girls This moment changed something in me It felt like I saw it I felt strongly People cheered us on and in their eyes we saw a spark of hope It was my first big step towards something big Of course the pass was not smooth My family was always not satisfied with my ambitions They wanted me to live a quiet traditional life But I knew that if I was not taking the position for myself no one would do that So I made a courageous decision to move to the city and continue my training and work
I remember my first day in town I had a little backpack and a big heart full of hope I lost myself got on the wrong bus and cried in the middle of a busy street But I did not stop these early mistakes I found a little work and another job Within a year I built the foundation under my feet
It was a tough day I really learned Life never gives us anything easy But if we are brave enough to continue the path slowly appears I never gave up because I believed in myself One day I turned around and saw how far I had come from a girl from a small village where I used to be
Today I lead a small NGO I work with rural girls Child education education training mentoring Helping other My organization is not big but it is enough to make small changes And I believe that even small changes in a persons life are great success
This is more than just a story It is a journey of my life If you feel stuck or helpless do not forget that your strength lies with us You can fall but if you climb again continue as you imagined Life challenges them but do not stop believing in yourself Success will find you a way one day
