Ups and downs. Highs and lows. Peaks and troughs. These are the patterns of life. In almost anything that you do, the road to success follows these perpetual waves.

One minute you're up, flying high, feeling good as you sail along effortlessly towards your goals and building a life that you've always dreamed of.

The next, it feels as though you're spinning your wheels, perhaps even moving backwards. Times get tough. The progress you were making not so long ago has come to a standstill and now you're beginning to doubt yourself, questioning if you can actually achieve these goals, is it even possible for someone like you?

It's around this point that many people accept defeat, give up and look for a new goal to pursue, something easier, something more 'realistic'.

And there have even been times when the person has been so disheartened by the situation they have found themselves in that they quit altogether, coming to the conclusion that there is no point in chasing after a better life because it doesn't exist for people like them.

Which simply isn't true.

Don't be one of THOSE people.

We all know those people. The ones that are always complaining. The people that nothing ever seems to go right for. The ones that quit at the first sign of a challenge and then have a million and one excuses as to why it would never have worked anyway. You know the type, one of life's 'victims'.

And in actual fact, there is no need to be like that at all and it certainly isn't going to do you any favours in helping you achieve your goals.

If you do find yourself slipping into, or are already in, this frame of mind then it's time to take a step back and re-evaluate your way of thinking.

Instead, you must realize that the road to success rarely travels in one continuous straight line. It is more like a spaghetti junction with jumps, free falls, hairpin bends, dead ends and loop-de-loops all thrown into the mix.

You should be looking at a dip in progress, a challenge, as a good thing and take positives from it instead of seeing it has a negative situation, full of doom and gloom.

Take the stock market for example and the age-old advice of; 'Buy low and sell high.' But for the that to happen then there has to be a dip in the market, which, for many, may be considered a catastrophe.

But for the top investors of the world, this turn of events is seen as an opportunity.

"Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it." - Warren Buffett

It's best to remain calm.

In times of confusion and uncertainty, it's best to remain calm. When your first reaction is to panic and freak out, take a deep breath and assess your situation before reacting.

Working towards your goals isn't always gonna be plain sailing, you WILL have to navigate your way through some tricky waters at some point. Deal with some kind of adversity. Find an alternative route to your destination.

That is if you wish to succeed of course.

You won't always be in the mood to keep on going. There will be times when your motivation and drive are at an all-time low, maybe even non-existent.

But you got to just keep on doing what you can until the storm blows over.

When you refuse to give up and instead decide that you WILL reach your goals, that you WILL achieve that life of your dreams, then you'll begin to see a dip in progress and motivation as just another stage that you have to take in order to make it to the next level of your journey and one step closer to your success.

Good luck, never give up and keep smiling.
