Gratitude May Be The Best Response To Times of Difficulty
The feeling of gratitude has been examined from many perspectives including psychological, religious and philosophical.
First, let's define gratitude.
Gratitude is a human emotion directed at other humans or the universe in general that results when a person receives something of value.
The feeling of gratitude has been examined from many perspectives including psychological, religious and philosophical.
From a psychological perspective, gratitude is related to the experience of positive emotions such as joy or amusement.
Experiments show that counting one's blessings increases people's level of optimism and feelings of well-being.
From a religious perspective, gratitude is seen as a virtue and an important part of the ethics or morality of many religions. In Christianity, for example, being grateful to God is one of the greatest commandments.
From a philosophical perspective, gratitude is viewed as an important part of justice. It is considered to be closely related to the concepts of praise, merit and desert.
From a more general perspective, gratitude is considered to be related to polite behavior and etiquette.
In some societies and in the business world, gratitude can have a special economic value.
The experience of gratitude is usually considered to be pleasant, but it may also serve as a motivation for people to behave morally.
Gratitude occurs when the beneficiary recognizes the benefactor's intent.
The Struggle
When we examine the world, it is clear that there are many times of difficulty. In such times, people respond in a variety of ways. It seems as if gratitude is the most common response to these times of difficulty.
Gratitude is a feeling of appreciation for something, someone or some emotion.
I think that gratitude is the best response to times of difficulty because it aims to improve the state both for oneself and others.
Gratitude can make a person feel better about themselves. By thinking of the good things that have happened to them, they can improve their state and condition.
A person who is grateful for a particular thing, someone or some emotion will view that thing in a positive light and may feel good about it. The things that generate gratitude can show what is particularly important to the feeling of appreciation.
If we are to consider gratitude as an appropriate response, it only makes sense that our feeling of appreciation for something be in proportion with the good or benefit gained. It is not permissible to feel grateful when a person asks for a glass of water and then wishes someone else's house would burn down.
We might also consider gratitude as an appropriate response to difficult situations. For example, a person who is grateful for the help of their family and friends during a time of need will likely feel good about that support.
Overcoming hardships
There is a certain amount of hardships that all living things must face and survive from in their lifetime. Without this suffering, we would not know how to appreciate happiness.
The problems are never-ending for each one of us but overcoming them will help you build character as well as develop skills to handle future hardships.
The greatest lesson you can learn is that it's okay to just "cry it out" sometimes. You'll feel better afterwards.
One must keep in mind that difficulty is not an inherent part of life. The negative things we experience as a result of others' actions or simply bad luck are what cause the suffering and pain.
Closing Thoughts
Gratitude is a very complex issue, and one thing that I can say for certain about it is that it is not an emotion. In fact, you could even go so far as to call gratitude the most foundational virtue. Without gratitude, there are no other virtues because without gratitude we cannot operate in this world.
Gratitude helps us to anchor ourselves in reality.
Gratitude is the key to overcome obstacles.
Gratitude is the cornerstone of civilization. Gratitude is also a requirement for all of the other virtues to exist.
Gratitude is a sign of wisdom.
Gratitude is the glue that bonds us together.
