Calling Your Power Back

A Powerful Self-care Tool for Women

Devotion to the Triple Goddess

I'm not saying that you don't have any visibility challenges when you feel powerful. But when you do, you know that you have the right to be seen and heard. When you meet any visibility challenge with that belief, you're telling the universe that you own your power.

It's not political power. It's not financial power. It's not power over others.

It's power over your own decision, your body, your words, your actions, your everything.

Why do we, then, so often, feel like we don't have that power. That we are powerless.

Because somewhere, at some point in time, something happened that made us believe that:

  • we don't deserve that power
  • we are not capable of handling that power
  • we need to surrender our power to avoid causing others discomfort
  • power is a bad thing and makes us a bad person to want it, let alone use it
  • wanting or exerting our power equates to greed
  • giving up our power is somehow a noble thing

These beliefs are so much a part of our internal programming that we realise that we operate from that space. There is a reason why there are so few women in powerful positions. And we can't all blame that on gender-based discrimination.

Those who don't feel they have or deserve power will not choose paths where the expression of their power is necessary or desirable.

We convince ourselves that we take the powerless position out of choice because it's easier.

What a lie that is!

Want to hear the truth?

We are never powerless. We always have power. We can't exist without it.

We may not have our power with us but we are not powerless.

You can change your belief about power. It's not set in stone. Once you know where a belief originates from, the root it grew out of, you have the power to change it.

See what I did there?

You can start with one step. I'm not saying easy step for a reason because I know it's not easy. It requires reflection on parts of ourselves we will not be proud of. The discomfort will be real, albeit temporary.

You need to ride it out with the goal in mind. You are not changing your t-shirt, you are changing your life!

The step you start with is catching yourself in the act. What stories are you buying into when it comes to your power. What stories are you repeatedly telling yourself, augmenting, perpetuating?

This is a biggie! But it's worth the time, the effort and the yuck you will be feeling.

So if our power is not with us, then who is it with?

You shed your power as you go through life. You leave a bit here and a bit there. Much like your skin cells. They are wherever you go.

The difference is that with your power, you can trace it back to who you left it with, why and how that missing power is showing up in your life right now.

Once you know where it is and who it's with, you can call it back to you. It belongs to you.

It knows you. It wants to be with you.

The best time to start that process is now. You will never be more ready than you are in this moment.
