5 Ways to Nourish Yourself in the Winter!

Amongst seasonal depression and burnout

Winter is coming.

No seriously, it is. And for many people, like myself, seasonal depression, fatigue, and burnout is on its way. Maybe you are already there. As the days get shorter and colder, the rain sets in and everything gets a little repetitive and bleak. Here are just a few things you can do to put away the blues, (If only just for a little while.)

Number 1 : RE-FOCUS

It's easy to let your summer goals dwindle down and be put on hold till the next year to focus on relaxing and planning for the holidays. But the best way to go through the rainy days, is to not lose sight of your long term goals. Any habits that you built up during the summer can usually be implemented in the winter times.

It's not as fun.....But it might be! Take that daily walk but dress warmer! Have a indoor winter ball instead of a barbecue. Get finances in order, hold a garage sale (in the garage...w/hot chocolate!) Go to gym (on the particularly hard days, get a special drink afterwards)

Remember why you started the habits that made you feel better in the first place.

Number 2: DANCE

For me, there's nothing better than dancing by myself with headphones. Clear some space, put on some tunes and shake the blues away! You'll be amazed at how much better you feel afterwards. If you are feeling adventurous, dance in the rain!

If you don't feel like dancing, just put on music while you craft, work or relax.

Number 3: SELF CARE

Sure, going out to get your nails or hair done, or buying that expensive thing that you saw on the internet is fun in all, but recklessly spending money that you don't have at the moment will only make you stressed about the future.

The healthy definition of self care, is that you do things that you enjoy without necessarily spending your monthly allowance. For me that means, listening to music while cooking a slow dinner, doing a craft I enjoy without any obligations, choosing not to answer that phone call because hypothetically that person will only stress you out when you talk to them.

Do what makes you happy...or close enough to it.

Number 4: TRAVEL

Of course its not much fun to travel when it's cold and rainy.

But as a nature girl, traveling is the best way for me to find myself a little more. Find a rainforest near you and take a hike, they are supposed to be rainy...right? There are always less people on the beach, the wind makes the waves higher and more beautiful.

Go to a cat café! You get to play with cats, and watch the rain out side, life couldn't be better! (unless you don't like cats). And my personal favorite: Run with the Wind!!! If you can't travel, run. With the wind blowing against you, put your arms out and FLY!

Number 5: ROMANTISIZE YOUR LIFE

This is best when you are single, but works with any amount. Love yourself.

Buy roses for yourself, because you deserve them. Order takeout or cook a romantic meal and arrange the table with decorations. Leave love notes in random places, so when you see them, they will remind you.

Its OK to steal that extra glance in the mirror. It's OK to reserve a table for one. And it's OK to love yourself.

Because you are worthy. And you deserve it.
