Finding peace in life requires finding the rest of our life in a good place. That means we have to find success. We need success in our careers, success in our relationships, and success in our passions. Without success, we don’t find peace. However, it often feels like the world is beating us down and will keep us there. How do you keep from letting it win?

It’s easy to look at the world around us thru a dark lens. The stress of a financial crisis, the loss of jobs, loved ones dying, horrible bosses, and the constant negativity in the news can drive a person’s mental health into the toilet. With each new battle won comes another, and eventually, everybody compiles a string of losses like a boxer past their prime. There are some often-forgotten ways that anyone can refresh, recharge, and recover from the onslaught of the world around them. They’re simple things we often take for granted.

Tips To Get Yourself Moving Forward Again

  1. Simply going for a walk. It’s easy to forget the simple things, but the act of going for a walk around the park, or along a beach, can help to clear your mind. When things get rough and we can’t solve the problems we’re faced with a new perspective is often all we need.
  2. Guilty Pleasures. Enjoy some guilty pleasures. Isolate yourself for a day and spend your time doing exactly what you want.
  3. Remember to revisit those hobbies. Revisiting an old passion that you have lost touch with can take you back to a simpler time, even if only for a while. Make a point to revisit things that make you happy regularly.
  4. Be charitable. When was the last time you went out of your way to give of yourself? Considering giving something to a total stranger. If they’re hard to find where you are, consider going and giving blood. There are hundreds of online charities you can find from the convenience of your smartphone or computer. Acts of giving can make you feel good inside, and that can distract you from all the darkness in the world.
  5. Consider going to a bar or coffee shop. When was the last time you got out around people? You don’t have to talk to anyone, but sit and soak up your surroundings. It may even give you back lost inspiration.
  6. Anyone in their mid-forties to mid-fifties has heard the expression knowing is half the battle. Educate yourself. Research what it is you are experiencing. Arm yourself with knowledge and then you’ll have the resources to tackle your problems.
  7. Prepare. Write down the things you need to do tomorrow. An organized approach to tackling your problems can make them feel easier to conquer.
  8. Strength. Affirm your strengths. Realize what you’re good at and be proud of your skills. Then you can work on building skills you’re weakest at.
  9. List your priorities. Single out what’s most important, and what falls in line. Tackle the problems as they come and keep your priorities in order.
  10. Be sure to get enough sleep. It’s different for most people, but the average adult needs 7–9 hours of sleep each night.
  11. Move forward. If you’re not moving forward, even at a slower pace, you’re stalled. Achievement can’t happen if you’re not moving.

Takeaways

The world will beat you down, and if you let it, it’ll keep you there. We all have the tools to beat things back that are bad for our lives, and to move forward to better things. It just takes commitment, discipline, and the willingness to remember that every time you wake up, you have a chance to do better than yesterday.

I agree it sometimes becomes tiring when you never reach your goals. And after a while it becomes hard to move forward toward these goals. And then you figure you have to change your goals since you are not moving forward. I used to just never give up and kept reorganizing my methods. It was nice to hear that others get overwhelmed as well. Thanks for sharing your advice
