Stress is a part of everyday life for most people, no matter where you live or what you do, and it can become overwhelming, and make life difficult to handle.

Finding solutions to rid the body and mind of tension, leads to a happier and healthier life, and the changes can occur immediately.

Here you will find some common and not so common ways to relax, unwind, and just make life a bit more bearable, even if for just a few moments each day.

The sound of water is a terrific way to escape the pressure of everyday stress. For most, the sound of rain is very therapeutic, and even on the sunniest days, rain can be found.

YouTube has a great selection of relaxing rain and waterfall sounds that can be played for minutes to hours. If you're at home, sit back, chill in a comfortable chair, and enjoy. But even for those at work, maybe skip that soda or quick junk food snack, and play a video that can let you escape, even if for just ten minutes.

For those who like the water idea, Google Home is another alternative for those who can't get to the beach or lake. A simple request to play the sound of rain can be a quick fix, and it all can be done from the comfort of your own home.

A different approach for relaxing the muscles in the body is a progressive idea that will have you feeling good in quick fashion. This technique starts with some deep breaths, but then moves to the body.

Starting with your head, tighten and relax all the muscles possible until you reach your toes. This is a great way to learn your body, and where tension is at its most. You'll also learn how the different muscle groups react with each other, and how, with some practice, the body and mind can become one.

Sitting at a desk is detrimental to one's well being, but a quick walk around the office every hour or two can break the cycle. Even if just a five minute walk to ask a question, or a vigorous stroll during a break at work, is a quick and effective way to leave troubles behind.

Another great option, and one that can be done anywhere is personal contact. A hug or cuddle with friends or family not only breaks tension, it also makes most feel happy, and while it's not a long-term answer, nothing beats a hug when its needed.

Now we'll move on to long-term solutions for relaxation and unwinding. The most common of these are a vacation, and while taking that special holiday works wonders, it's not always something that can be done at the drop of the hat.

If you have a weekend free and need to chill, try binge-watching a favorite show or group of movies. Not only is it an escape for a few hours, it is also an affordable way to get away from it all.

The outdoors can also be soothing with several activities that can take you elsewhere when needed. Fishing is one hobby that can be soothing, especially if you're catching something that day. It keeps the mind occupied on the now, and what needs to be done to make that catch of the day, but also gets you some sun, making it a win-win for balanced health.

It has been said for years that talking to yourself is a sign of insanity, but experts disagree, especially if what you say is positive. There are several different ways to talk and its not all verbal.

Writing in a diary or journal about your day is a great tool for well being. It allows any person to target specifics of what causes stress, but also what brings happiness, which will create more optimism, and a better understanding of how to relieve the stress of a bad day over time.

There are no sure fire ways to flick that switch so that everything will be alright, but the techniques listed above are just small examples of what can be done to relax, unwind, and have a better life in general.
