Type 1 diabetes is a juvenile disease that happens to children to teenager under the age of 18 years of age. Most Juvenile diabetics get the disease at the between the ages of 1 year to 10 years old. The definition of type 1 diabetes, according to medical doctors, is an autoimmune disease that destroys the insulin producing cells in the patient’s pancreas. These are known as the beta cells. As of right now, there is no cure for this disease. However, the user can take a medicine called insulin. Insulin is a medicine that helps the diabetic.

Knowing how to take care of someone with this disease could be life-saving. There are key items to watch for with someone that has Type 1 diabetes. One of the many scenarios a person can watch out for is when the blood sugar is ‘dropping.’ Medical term for this word is hypoglycemia. This is when the blood sugar is below 70 mg/dl. Blood sugars that run this low could harm the diabetic. When blood sugars are this low, the diabetic needs to eat ‘fast carbohydrates.’ Examples of fast carbohydrates include candy, sugar based products, and bread. For faster results, some users prefer liquid glucose.

Like many things in life, when something goes low then it must go high. Diabetes is no expectation. A person could experience high blood sugar. The medical term for high blood sugar is called Hyperglycemia. This is very serious. Results of Hyperglycemia is not took serious is death. One of the best tactics to use when blood sugar is going high is to take a dose of insulin. Doing this will help the blood sugar go down to normal level. Some of the symptoms to notice when a diabetic’s blood sugar levels are up is dry mouth, sweating, thirst, confusion, rapid weight loss, and many more.

Keeping emergency situations calm and making sure all the supplies are at hand. Before giving insulin to a diabetic make sure that the dosage is right, if needed call a doctor for instructions. In worse case situations it is best to call the emergency room or call 911 to have someone in the medical care team to come out. It is important to have the person’s information ready when the medical team comes out to assist.

In conclusion, diabetes is not a joke. Thousands of people die from it each year because it is not taken seriously by the patient. Maintaining a healthy diet, doing an exercise routine, and getting plenty of rest will help out any diabetic. Knowing how much insulin to take and what foods to eat will help a person with this disease in the long run.
