Yes. Very true. Everything which is born, will die one day. Nothing is permanent in this world. Life is the beginning of death and death is the final destination of life. Death is inescapable, inevitable. Yet, everybody wants to live longer. Let's talk, here,  how to live longer and how to get this longevity.

Longevity depends upon the purpose or meaning of life. Earlier, the psychiatrists and psychologists talked of logotherapy to create longevity. Logotherapy is a therapeutic approach that helps people find personal meaning in life. It’s a form of psychotherapy that is focused on the future and on our ability to endure hardship and suffering through a search for purpose. If we don't have a purpose of life, we can not endure the hardships. But now, the concept has been changed and it goes beyond logotherapy.

According to the new concept, longevity depends upon "the happiness of always being busy ". In addition to a healthful diet, a simple life outdoors, green tea and a good climate, it's the happiness of always being busy that shapes a long life. Wherever people follow this concept, they enjoy longevity. Here, we can take the example of Japan. In Japan, particularly in Okinawa, there are more centenarians than anywhere else in the world. Again, Ogimi, a rural town on the north end of the island boasts the highest life expectancy in the world and is nicknamed as the Village of Longevity. What is the secret to their long and happy life?

Studies suggest that it's their incredible friendliness, their laughing and joking incessantly amid lush green hills with crystalline waters that keep them healthy and give them longevity. It is found that an uncommon joy flows from them and guides them through the long and pleasurable journey of their lives. The principle of their life is "treat everyone like a brother, even if you have never met them before ". So, it turns out that one of the secrets to their happiness is feeling like part of a community. From an early age, they practice teamwork, and so they are used to helping one another.

Thus, we find that nurturing friendships, eating light and healthy,  moderate exercises, outdoor activities, feeling happy and contented, celebrating every moment, cherishing each new day, keeping busy, all these are the secret to longevity. We need to discover our happiness to lead a long and joyful journey through life. We need to discover our passion, what we love and what we are good at. There must a mission of life to keep busy all the while. The profession of our choice and making life worthwhile can lead to our happiness and longevity.

Hence, we see that a meaningful and purposeful life is the main secret to happiness and longevity. It leaves a lasting effect on the health of body, mind and spirit. We don't need to retire ever. We need to keep doing, busy in activities, till our health allows. In having a purpose of life, there is no scope for retirement at all. A strong sense of community leaves no place for sadness. Sadness combined with hopelessness and negative feelings, is the main reason of all the diseases and death.

So, be positive,  live happy and healthy, celebrate every moment of life in togetherness and enjoy a blissful long life.
