CHAPTER TWO

THE PATH OF THE WATER WITCH

Water Witches are sometimes called Sea Witches or water hags, but many of them find a calling with inland creeks, rivers, and lakes. It is rare for them to limit themselves to any one type of body of water. They generally align with all forms, including rain and falling snow.

The Water Witch can see things that those on other paths cannot. In fact, the human sense of sight belongs in her realm. Just as the seas teem with life that we have yet to discover and understand, the Water Witch knows that there is much more to our world than what is within our eyesight! While she can be highly superstitious, for the most part she simply knows that there is more just waiting to be discovered. As-well as somethings that humanity has known about and forgotten over the ages.

The old phrase “out of the blue” speaks volumes about the ability of the Water Witch to tune in to her intuition. She is often very gifted in divination practices. Tarot is usually her divinatory tool of choice, but she also has a talent for dowsing.

The Water Witch sees little that she considers an obstacle. She understands that her fate is in her hands, and if she cannot flow through something, she will flow around it. Once the water witches mind is made up, very little can stop her from obtaining what she wants. Because water exists in three forms on Earth, The Water Witch can be considered a formidable force. She will not admit to any weaknesses, for her weaknesses are her strengths. For nothing will stop water from flowing for long, for in the end, she will smash her way through it.

The Water Witch specializes in healing, cleansing, beauty, emotions, intuition and energy. Her magical style is usually based on instinct. If the feeling hits her to perform a cleansing, she will. She does not necessarily worry about correspondences and timing. Her timing is completely her own–she will not be rushed by others into decisions or action. Schooled in water magic, ice magic and snow magic, the Water Witch can tell you all about the role of water in the metaphysical and physical realms.

Winter is the season when the Water Witch’s power is at its peak. She holds within herself the ability to transform fluidity to solid form during the winter, the same way that water turns to ice. It is during this season that the Water Witch should turn her view inward and evaluate her goals. She often redefines herself through the process. Because of this, a Water Witch grows stronger every year. She understands that just as dry ice is sticky, it is her role to hold thing together.

Throughout the winter months, the Water Witch is abnormally busy, even for her active lifestyle. Because she is at her highest power and incarnated in all three of her forms during these months, she may be short of temper. She will be a very gracious hostess, regardless of the timing. The Water Witch is known for her generous hospitality.

Due to her busy lifestyle, the Water Witch frequently has to let the housework slide somewhat. Although she prefers all things to be clean, she also understands that there must be “salt in the sea.” In other words, a small amount of dust is inevitable, and she is able to live with that comfortably. She absolutely cannot stand clutter, though. It drives her to distraction. She will usually stand her books and DVDs in order, everything will have some sort of coding to its lay out, no one else may understand her coding but she does

Another common trait of the Water Witch is a quirky sense of humor. It simply cannot be defined. Some of the things she says seem to come from outer space in their relation to the topic, yet they can make you laugh as nothing else will. This is intentional–the Water Witch is light-hearted. But just when you begin to think she has never had a deep thought in her life, she will prove you wrong. When it comes to serious conversation, the Water Witch can often put her finger on an aspect of the situation that the other Elemental Witches do not see. The Water Witch is very wise.

Like her mythical brethren the mermaids and water nymphs, the Water Wise tends to love long hair. She may keep it pulled back in a ponytail due to a lack of time, but she lets it grow nonetheless. The effects that water has on the body are directly in line with the metaphysical attributes of the Water Witch. Usually beautiful, she is often younger looking in appearance than in age and has a long memory and attention span and bright, shining eyes.

The Water Witch may be seen as moody, but like the sea herself, she is often in motion. She rarely slows down She is full of energy and always on the go. And like the sea, her moods swing with the tides. The moon holds sway over the tides, and one can easily draw a parallel between the moon and the Water Witch’s emotional patterns.

Ocean tides and the lies we tend to tell ourselves

Someone once asked if I thought that the moon and tides really do have an effect on us as humans, not just on the spiritual side to humans, it made me smile because I have always thought it had and every so often I will be asked that very same question.

The moon is one of those things we always see and take notice of. From being children looking up to the moon, to being adults still looking up to the moon, it’s one of those things we always see and always wonder about. So the logical side to my brain is, why wouldn’t the moon have such an effect on us, just look at what the moon will do to the ocean twice a day, the moon commands and the ocean abides, we are mostly composed of water, without water we are nothing, without the moon the ocean is still, the ocean and the moon work together to tug at our hearts, minds and dreams, both together creep though the tiny cracks of our thoughts and widen the creative intuitive of our minds.

Walking home one night we could see the moon in all her glory, a large grey crystal in the sky with a beautiful rings of reds, golds and white around her, we could hear the waves crushing on the cliffs, the night felt calm and right, no matter how old you are the sound of the ocean and the glory of the moon will always make you stop and take a moment to wonder.

Both the moon and the ocean are never the same from one day to the next, forever changing and moving, it is an illusion of mankind to believe that the moon and ocean are the same day in day out, the truth is that they are in constant change, the oceans bed forever moving, the beaches forever moving and changing. So taking that into account we can see why we are so connected to the oceans and moon, from the moment of birth until the day we die, we are changing and moving, just because it happens over time doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen, we are connected to the rhythm of the ocean and the gentle movement of the moon, we will learn to understand that the rhythm of life is just that, it’s like the earths song. We are waiting for the change in the notes of the song, from the soft gentle sound of the earth to beat to the crushing waves, life is the song that we have to find the changing lyrics. Our lives can be reflections of the beauty of change and growth, if we will only allow it.

Walking the seashore or lakeside is a forceful moment in our life’s, down there by the water we are faced with our own inner darkest thoughts, and our heads swim with long lost dreams and truths of ourselves and the lies that we tell ourselves each day, only truths are made down at the water’s edge.

It makes us face the new and release the old, allowing our pasts to be washed away and taken down into its deep dark depths, a time of transformation and change, for endings and new beginnings, without an ending there can be no beginnings, each are woven together in the eternal cycles of life and death and makes us focus on the new things that should be filling our new cups of life, to end dark truths and lies that we tend to tell ourselves, the lies and truths are things we do need for change and growth, so lies are needed for a short time but we should not allow them to take hold and become the lie that we have told ourselves over and over again.

We seek to control as much of our lives as possible in order to keep the chaos and uncertainty of change at bay. But the oceans and moon reminds us that no matter how hard we try to control the forces, they are still and will always be in control of us.

The ocean makes us learn to trust, trust that the future will contain good things and in this trust we are able to release the old dreams to be able to build on the new ones, the waters contain layers of the past and future and in that moment we can gaze into the reflections of ourselves looking for patterns and hope, looking past ourselves into a moment of another time and space.

Connecting to the ancient world though the water’s edge is not a feat that is only told about in books and fairy tales, connecting with the ancient world is a fact, a lesson that can be learned, but this is some takes time and a lot of hard work, and not something I could touch on in just a few lines, it would take me chapters and chapters to explain so for now we have to leave that, but I wanted to just show you that that connecting to the ancient is in fact possible thought the power of the ocean or lakeside, just the same as a druid can make a connection though the standing stones you can too with the water’s edge, I will just leave you with this thought, do you think you are the only person who has ever stood at that water’s edge, in the same place.

Nothing truly ends, it just flows on into a new beginning.
