The Many Side Effects of Herbal Medicine

To Prove A Point

Before you go elderberry or Echinacea crazy, there are things that should be spoken of in order to make sure that those interested in herbal remedies make it a point to understand that herbs have major side effects right smack next to normal medicine. If you have thyroid disorder, using herbal remedies may have an effect on you. Herbal remedies can have bad side effects just like Western medicine remedies. Don't go all gaga over herbs just yet because St. John's Wort can make a bipolar manic as well as give them sun rash on their face. Also, this article is in no way something to be mistaken for a doctor's advice, I'm just someone with knowledge, do not change your treatment rules without talking to your physician. This article is written to prove a point on how people with hypothyroidism, and in my case, type 1 diabetes, can get herbal remedy side effects as much as any normal Western medicine chemical can cause more side effects.

Let's use hypothyroidism as an example of an illness where people with chronic illness have to be careful of how to use herbs wisely. I want to set up a massive herb garden in my house, only because my garden will teach me about herbal medicine using quite literal hands on techniques. TSH is an acronym for the term "thyroid stimulating hormone" and this hormone can help metabolism, along with how well oxygen is consumed. Hypothyroidism is caused by a failure of the thyroid gland, and more. I'm only talking about hypothyroidism in this article from personal experience. Hashimoto's thyroid disease is when the thyroid antibodies bind to the thyroid, preventing it from making enough thyroid hormone.

Herbal medicine has many a side effect, that interacts with levothyroxine. People with hypothyroidism feel cold easily, gain weight, can't control their weight, have a lower body temperature, from 97.3 below, and also have to deal with behavioral problems such as depression. Herbal remedies do have harmful effects on some people with endocrine problems. Let's look at what those are. These days, Echinacea can be found in many a supplement. Those with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis may stimulate their disorder that makes cytokines attack the thyroid further. Echinacea can fire up the thyroid gland big time, making thyroid symptoms worse along with increasing your TSH. This is why I have to be very careful with herbal remedies. Echinacea can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea; it can cause dry mouth, muscle pain and joint pain. So before you take it, think about the potential side effects, which could lead to you becoming a hot mess.

If I already have sleep problems that I'm working very hard to correct, knowing full well that using Echinacea could make it worse, all I'm saying is that everybody should use caution while using herbal remedies. Since I have autoimmune health problems such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, and maybe low blood platelets something or other, I think that all of us with such issues should rethink herbal remedies and how they are taken. This is because while Elderberry is powerful stuff that can treat a variety of illnesses with the promise that it can make sure that colds or flu does not latch into your system in order to cause illness. Raw berries, however are poisonous, along with bark and leaves of the plant itself, although elderberry can be cooked in order to be eaten. The actual elderberry plant contains potent levels of Vitamin C, or 60% of recommended daily intake that you should get in your diet. In my personal experience, Elderberry has cut cold symptoms in half, by making sure that it doesn't over run me.

Elderberry may prevent the flu a bit, in particular the symptoms that crop up in 24 hours, but I have to be careful with it, only because less is more. There is a way that an Elderberry user with Hashitomo's, which I also have could use to function, and this is because you can get a TSH test that would tell you if your immune system is overactive or not, while some people swear by gluten/dairy free, although I do not necessarily do that too much. I need to eat meat and I need dairy. Lowering thyroid antibodies is better than raising them. This is only because It would seem that natural remedies can raise antibiodies. The goal of managing thyroid disorder is to lower antibodies because when high, it makes a patient very dysfunctional. Be wary of herbal medicine no matter what.
