The Dangerous Habit That Is Ruining Your Body
A simple habit change that can improve your health and well-being.

In today's world, mobile phones and televisions have become a part of everyday life. For many people, using a mobile phone or watching TV while eating has become such a common habit that they feel uncomfortable eating without a screen in front of them. Some people even believe that their meal is incomplete if they are not scrolling through social media, watching videos, or checking messages while eating.
At first glance, this habit may seem harmless. However, over time it can affect both physical and mental health in ways that many people do not realize.
When we eat, our body prepares itself for digestion. The brain signals the digestive system to release enzymes and digestive juices that help break down food properly. But when our attention is focused on a screen instead of our meal, this natural process can be disrupted. People often eat too quickly, fail to chew their food properly, and may not even notice how much they have eaten. As a result, digestion can become less efficient, leading to bloating, discomfort, and other digestive problems.
Another major issue is sleep quality. Excessive screen exposure, especially before bedtime, can interfere with the body's natural sleep cycle. The blue light emitted by phones, tablets, and televisions can make it harder for the brain to prepare for sleep. Many people wake up feeling tired even after spending enough hours in bed because the quality of their sleep has been affected.
Over time, constant screen use can also contribute to eye strain. Staring at screens for long periods may cause dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, and difficulty focusing. Many people notice that their eyes feel tired at the end of the day, but they often ignore these warning signs.
Mental health can also be affected. Mobile phones and social media platforms are designed to keep people engaged for long periods. Endless scrolling, constant notifications, and a continuous flow of information can place the brain under constant stimulation. This can lead to difficulty concentrating, increased stress, and mental fatigue. In some cases, excessive screen use combined with poor lifestyle habits may contribute to cognitive decline and increase the risk of memory-related problems later in life.
Another unhealthy habit that has become common is taking mobile phones into the bathroom. Many people spend long periods scrolling through their phones while sitting on the toilet. Frequently touched surfaces in bathrooms can contain large numbers of germs, and touching a phone in such environments can transfer bacteria and other microorganisms to the device. Later, when the same phone is handled during meals, those germs can easily reach the hands and mouth.
The long-term consequences of these habits may be more serious than many people expect. Today, people often live into their 60s, 70s, and even 80s. However, if unhealthy habits continue to grow, future generations may begin experiencing health problems much earlier in life. Conditions that were once associated with older age could start appearing in younger adults due to poor lifestyle choices and excessive dependence on digital devices.
Fortunately, small changes can make a big difference. Keep your phone away during meals. Focus on the food in front of you. Wash your hands properly before eating and avoid touching your phone while having a meal. Chew your food slowly and mindfully. Give your eyes regular breaks from screens and limit unnecessary screen time whenever possible.
Good health is built through daily habits. By reducing dependence on screens during important activities such as eating, you can support better digestion, improve sleep quality, protect your eyesight, and maintain your overall well-being for years to come.
