Spiritual Wellness is important to everyone's overall wellness... however, it is also an easy aspect to forget. What Spiritual Wellness means changes dramatically between each and every person. The goal is to find how you can fulfill your Spiritual Wellness Needs. Spiritual Wellness includes values and beliefs that provide each individual a sense of meaning and purpose in their life. It is one of the major dimensions of overall wellness.

So... what is Spiritual Wellness?

Throughout history, people gave searched for meaning and purpose in human existence... this is a perfect example of our inherit need for Spiritual Wellness. However, it is a bit more complicated than that... it involves a search for harmony with both oneself and with others. It is a search for a balance of inner needs with the rest of the world. I know, not the most helpful explanation... So how about this: Your religious faith, values, beliefs, principles, and morals define your spirituality. Long story short, many people fulfill their spiritual wellness with religion and prayer. With that said, religion is not the only option.

You can be spiritual without being religious!

If you are not religious, you don't have to reject all spirituality. There are other ways to reflect on yourself and the meaning of life. If you are religious, you are welcome to explore these options as well. They will not interfere with your beliefs.

Some examples for practicing spiritual wellness with religion are:

  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Affirmations
  • Volunteering
  • Forgiving others
  • Make effort to love and welcome others around you
  • Do something for others with expecting anything back
  • Turn the TV off

Two Key Concepts to achieving Spiritual Wellness

It is healthy to continuously ponder the meaning of life and welcome others beliefs rather than to close your mind and refuse to listen to others.

It is healthy to live each day recognizing and appreciate our own beliefs and values. Be honest and true to yourself.

Why is spiritual wellness important?

Those who practice their spiritual wellness often are able to allow themselves to question the meaning and purpose of life. As well as they are willing and able to transcend their lives and the lives of others. Most importantly, they will seek to find harmony between that which lies within and the social and physical forces that come from outside.

Being involved in a spiritual community can also help with other aspects of wellness by helping you stay involved, active and assist you in rediscovering your purpose.
