As we head into 2021 the pandemic continues to rage and there is said to be a new strain of the virus. Everyone needs to take every precaution to prevent this illness and not to spread the germs if infected. People are dying and this needs to be taken very seriously. The National Health Service has given an update that we all need to pay attention to. It seems that there are some COVID symptoms that are not on the official list that experts say we should be watching out for. You can read the story by clicking on the link.

The bottom line is that this strain of the coronavirus is new and we are learning as we go. This is why it is important to recognize any sign that you might possibly be infected. Please continue wearing masks, washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and continue disinfecting. Keep implementing social distancing and again the wearing of a face covering. These practices will also reduce the chance of getting a cold or the flu. It is also important to think of the well being of others so please don't litter the ground with used, face masks. No one should have to pick up the covering you had over your face, so dispose of them properly.

The NHS reiterates that the “main symptoms” of COVID-19 are a fever, which is a temperature of 100 degrees or more and you actually feel hot to the touch on your back or chest. Coughing more than usual or a new cough where you have 3 or more episodes of coughing within 24 hours, A loss of smell and or taste. Tim Spector is the Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London. He is also the lead scientist on the ZOE COVID Symptom Study app, He recently stressed the importance of knowing all the symptoms of COVID and not get stuck on the 3 main ones that have been emphasized. He added that the other symptoms have been missed in more than 2- percent of coronavirus cases.

Some of those who have been infected with COVID have expressed that they had the symptoms that the NHS is mentioning. These are fatigue, headaches, muscle pain, and, diarrhea. muscle pain. What has not been emphasized is confusion and skipping meals. The main thing is being in tune with your own body because most people can tell when something is off. The key is not ignoring what is going on and taking proper precautions for self healing and making sure you do not infect anyone else.

According to USA Today, the federal government is close to delivering 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Americans by the end of the month of December, as they promised. The issue is that the states are taking longer than earlier expected to innoculate those who want the vaccine. For this reason please continue to use wisdom and practice proper hygiene. We should all make a lifestyle choice to wash out hands and cover our faces. Don't forget if you have to cough, please do so on your arm and not in your hand or anyone's face. CNN reports that more than 1 million Americans have already received the vaccine. There is, however, still some hesitancy within communities of color regarding being inoculated with antibodies against the coronavirus.

African and Latino Americans already believe they do not get the same rate of care as Caucasians. The vaccine being new and side effects unknown at this point are cause for alarm. Many people of color want to wait and see how this preventative measure affects others because they don't want to have side effects and the cure be worse than the disease. Some blacks believe if they have problems after getting vaccinated that this might kill them. While all of this is being sorted out we still need to pay attention to the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and do absolutely everything we can to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
