When I was around 15 years old, I used to read Oxygen Magazine. For those not in the know, Oxygen is a female bodybuilder's magazine — and yes, I really do enjoy following female bodybuilders and learning how they max out their muscle gains.

After all, there's something really admirable about being able to transform your body into what you think is an ideal form.

One of the biggest writers in Oxygen was a woman by the name of Tosca Reno, and she had invented this concept of "eating clean," a term that would later become almost globally synonymous for healthy eating.

Eating clean, if you haven't heard, is eating food that is unrefined, unprocessed, and additive-free. Now that I'm getting back into shape, I'm slowly starting up my clean eating lifestyle once more — with an exception of my Monster Energy drink, of course.

When you eat clean, it's way easy to notice a difference in your life. Your skin gets clearer, you eat a lot less, and you just feel a lot better. If you want to eat clean, you should check out these must have clean eating cookbooks.

One of the best clean eating cookbooks I've ever seen is The Clean Eating Cookbook & Diet, and the reason why that is, is due to the way they present clean eating. Rather than talking about all the things you can't have, they talk about what you can have — and how to make the most of a clean lifestyle.

This is a cookbook that really emphasizes getting rid of processed food, and also makes a point of showing that eating clean can be easy to do. You don't have to have a degree from the Cordon Bleu to make these foods, but you'll still feel like a master chef.

Clean eating often is assumed to be a bodybuilding thing, and for some reason, that seems to register to many people as a sign that it's a carnivore-only diet choice. It's totally not, and The Oh She Glows Cookbook proves it.

All the recipes in this clean eating cookbook are vegan or vegetarian. They are also extremely nutritious, and help you get that naturally healthy "glow" to your skin that can only be gotten from a super healthy diet. 50 of the recipes inside are also gluten-free, making it one of the most inclusive clean eating cookbooks on the market.

This book of over 200 healthy recipes was developed by Dr. Alejandro Junger, a cardiologist who was getting increasingly worried about the state of his patients' diets. As one of the few clean eating cookbooks written by a doctor, it's a must-have for anyone who wants to better their health through diet.

Junger believes that clean eating could be a way to help decrease depression, aging-related diseases, and weight loss "blocks," and once you give his diet tips a try, you will probably agree with him.

All the recipes in here are chef sourced, come from a variety of different flavor profiles, and prove that dieting doesn't have to be bad.

Tosca Reno was one of the first people I ever saw talking about eating clean, and as such, I really can't make a list of the best clean eating cookbooks without at least one from the OG of the clean eating movement.

If you're looking to build muscle or just foray into healthy eating, Tosca Reno's no-nonsense approach is a good way to start. This book isn't just one of her clean-eating cookbooks, either. It offers exercise advice, cool tips on how to stay healthy for longer, and more.

And yes, the recipes are delicious.

A lot of alternative health types believe that inflammation is a major issue that causes health problems — and there is some evidence that this is the truth, too. Amie Valpone's Eating Clean book is one of those awesome recipe books that take a holistic approach to health via nutrition without seeming pretentious about it.

If you're looking at clean eating cookbooks that involve a full lifestyle change and a "last resort" attempt at getting your diet back on track, buying Eating Clean is a great life decision. Over 200 recipes are in this book, all of which are gluten-free, soy-free and vegetarian.

Valpone leaves nothing to the imagination in terms of what you should need for her two-week body makeover plan, and that's actually why we love this book so much.

Say what you will about slow cookers, but they can make a mean meal — and a healthy one at that. The Clean Eating Slow Cooker is one of the only must-have clean eating cookbooks that is dedicated to crock pot recipes that are diet-friendly and easy to make.

For commuters like myself, Linda Larsen's book will prove to be one of the most useful items on this list. After all, a good crock pot filled with juicy food always is a great thing to come home to.

Are you the type of person who wants a super shredded body? Well, they do say that "abs are made in the kitchen," and I personally agree. If you want to go the low-carb, gluten-free, high-health route, there are clean eating cookbooks out there that suited for that very goal.

Eat Happy by Anna Vocino is one such book, and the recipes are all accompanied by mouthwatering photos that might make you feel guilty for a second...until you realize that these books are all about guilt-free eating.

Hoo boy, you knew this one would have to end up on my list. As a lover of nachos and ribs, I simply can't handle the idea of not being able to enjoy classic comfort foods while eating clean. The Dude Diet is one of the best clean eating cookbooks for people who just want good, stick-to-your-ribs food.

If you're a person who loves decadent comfort food, then The Dude Diet is one of the most important must have clean eating books you can buy. Besides, it'll help you save money since you'll stop eating fast food.
