Reading for 9-23 thru 9-19-19

This week we have three out of three in the suit of Swords. Swords represent the Air element, which aligns with our intellect. Our language skills, memory, and cognitive ability, what’s often referred to as our left-brain thought, fall into this category. They represent our ability to run our experiences through the filters of structure, language, and logic so that we find a way to understand them and fit them into our day to day reality.

The Center card is the Princess of Swords. (RWS Page)

I see the princesses of the tarot as having the courage and strength born of innocence. As the youngest of the court cards, they are just beginning on their journey of experience in their suit, and have not yet formed judgments or preconceived ideas about what they will encounter on their path. They stand in open innocence, looking at what’s ahead with curiosity and very little fear. As the center card, this princess tells me that the veracity and viability of our ideas and plans will be in the spotlight, and because the card in the West position is the 10 of Swords, they will likely be disputed.

The West card is the 10 of Swords.

This is one of the most challenging cards in the deck, in my opinion. With this 10 we find our ideas and beliefs being pulled apart, busted up and trampled, because they differ from an “accepted” standard. These attitudes of conflict are often driven by anger as unfamiliar beliefs go against someone else’s comfort and things that have been commonly held as the Truth. When we suggest a different option for that “truth,” in effect we’re seen as calling that truth wrong. This can bring out a person’s fear and defensiveness in a flash. These conflicts can be as expansive as whatever God you believe in, or as mundane as which way to load the dishwasher, but they can trigger those who don’t agree on a very deep level. This week it can seem like we challenge the entire belief system of someone we’re dealing with by disagreeing with whether the toilet paper should hang over or under the roll.

The East card is the Prince of Swords.

As the princesses are the youngest of the court cards, the princes are on the next leg of the journey. I see them as the adolescent boys of the Tarot. They show the behavior that results from having a bit of information, though not nearly all of it, and charging off, full speed ahead, leaving more mature folks standing in their dust, holding the map, the helmet, or the gas can. “They’ll be back,” is often the only thing we have left to say—and we’re usually right. When they crash into the wall, or run out of gas, or find themselves lost in unfamiliar territory, they wander home a bit deflated, but a bit wiser for it. Sometimes though—sometimes—they crash through the wall like it never existed, or find a new path, or discover that the way forward is easier without the usual fuel. This is the power of the princes.

In conclusion;

This week we will likely be faced with defending our honor, our innocence, or our innovation. With the princess at the center it’s our open acceptance and inclusion of facts and info, which may not fit into an existing paradigm that’s drawing scrutiny. The 10 of swords seeks to dismantle that acceptance, and show it as faulty or even ridiculous, while the prince rebounds with his bit of fact or supporting success, unafraid to use the spikey end of the sword to make his point. So, it looks like conflict or at least a dissenting opinion of our choices is at issue this week. My best advice is to keep your innocent intentions and compassionate acceptance in mind, and stand strong in the Truth as you see it. There may be the urge for an impulsive response, and, in this case, that could be the best way through. It may well be necessary to use the sharp edge of logic and the shield of positive outcome to make your point. The good news is that the energy of both the princess and the prince is youthful and determined, while the 10 reeks of old, unhealthy, and stale.

Have a dynamic week!

Light,

Tory
