Increase Your Psychic Awareness

By Drinking Herbal Tea?!

By Align and Incline Ash and IndiaPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

Let’s face it. We all have trouble trusting our gut instincts sometimes, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Some people hear the word “psychic” and want to run in the other direction. Psychic connections don’t have to be a scary thing, though. While there is some mysticism to it, it’s not all gypsies and thieves. Sometimes making yourself more aware psychically is simply allowing yourself to trust your instincts a bit more! There are many different parts to creating a strong psychic awareness, and a holistic way of thinking is the first step.

Herbalism and folk remedies have been around since the dawn of man. At one time these were the only medicinal remedies that were available. The local medicine woman, witch doctor, or shaman was where you went when you or a member of your family had fallen ill. These people not only believed in the medicinal healing power of plants and herbs, but they also believed in animism. Animism is the belief that many spiritual forces are responsible for animating the world around us. Everything in the world has a soul, and as important as it is to care for the physical, we must also take care of the souls that surround us. In return, those souls will take care of us.

Drinking herbal tea is probably something that we have all done as a remedy at some point in our lives. The grocery store is lined with shelves and shelves of teas prepackaged for easy and convenient use. But, did you know it’s just as easy to procure your own herbs and blend them for specific uses yourself? And just as each herb has an affect on the physical body, herbal remedies also have magickal and spiritual uses!

Herbal decoctions are made with woody or seedy plant parts, such as bark or roots! Typically, the plant parts are boiled, and then placed on low heat to simmer for about fifteen or twenty minutes. Then, they are strained and the mixture is ready to drink.

Teas are brewed from the flowers, leaves, stems or fruits of a plant. They are steeped in boiling water for about five to ten minutes.

Brewing a psychic awareness tea (or any magickal tea) is just like brewing any other tea, with the added element of intention. Going back to animism, we think about the plants used in this tea having a soul. We need to honor that soul by saying thank you to the plants. It sounds strange, and you may feel a bit weird doing it, but it is a necessary step in being grateful for Mother Earth and all that She gives us.

Your next step will be to gather your herbs. You may have a green thumb and the ability to grow and dry the herbs yourself, however, if you’re like me it’s much easier to buy them at the local mystic shop. Don’t have a local mystic shop? Well, you’re in luck! A lot of herbs and spices are sold at the grocery store! For the psychic awareness tea you will need the following:

  • 1/4 teaspoon dried calendula (marigold flowers)
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried catnip
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried lavender (food grade, not for aromatherapy)
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey for sweetness
  • A teabag or tea ball
  • A tea kettle or pot to boil water
  • Your favorite cup or mug!

While the tea is steeping, it’s important to set an intention. In this case, your intention will be greater psychic awareness and opening of the third eye. Sometimes it helps to say a mantra or affirmation out loud. For example, you could say, "As this tea is brewing, I set the intention to increase my psychic awareness, and open my third eye chakra. As I drink this herbal remedy, I will feel a greater sense of self and intuition.”

***It is important to note that this tea may make you drowsy. Please drink it with caution, especially if you are already on a sedative medication. It is best when drunk before a period of quiet meditation, or before you go to sleep at night.***
