Baby hernia

A little negligence can make the child lose his genitals and cause a lifetime of regret. Mr. Zhang's family is in a frenzy because of a small "bulge".

What is this all about?

It turns out that Mr. Zhang's wife's first child was a daughter, who grew up peacefully to seven years old. The two families have been thinking about a second child since early last year.

After some active preparation, his wife successfully conceived a second child, and then successfully gave birth to a baby boy. Now, the baby is half a year old and is the heart of the family.

I thought I had previous experience in caring for my daughter, and with the help of my grandparents, feeding a baby boy would not be a difficult task. But it was an anomaly in the day that later made the family regret it.

One day, the mother found that the little boy was in a bad mood, crying and fussing for no reason, and she couldn't coax him. Even though the adults tried their best, they didn't find out what was wrong with the child.

The mother did not take this matter to heart, just as a normal reaction of the child. Thus, the half-year-old boy cried for several days for no apparent reason.

A few days later, when the mother changed the little boy's diaper, she noticed a bulge at the base of the child's thigh. She didn't know what the bulge meant, but it didn't look like there was anything wrong with it, so she ignored it.

It was not until the child cried more and more often that over time, the baby also had some nausea and vomiting symptoms. This is what gave the adults a wake-up call. The couple discussed: either, go to the hospital to see it?

After arriving at the hospital, Mr. Zhang's youngest son was soon diagnosed with an inguinal hernia.

The small bulge was not noticed, and with such a delay, the child ended up with an intestinal tube embedded at this time. Surgical treatment would require the removal of the child's necrotic intestines and testicles!

Hearing this news, Mr. Zhang's family was stunned. Half-year-old baby looks so healthy, but intestinal necrosis, but also be removed from the genitals?

A common pediatric disease with extremely serious consequences

What kind of disease is this? Is it a rare disease?

The answer is no! A pediatric hernia is a very common disease in which the internal organs of the abdominal cavity protrude outside the abdominal cavity, and the incidence is not as low as we think! Generally, it is associated with developmental abnormalities.

So why does this disease lead to such tragic consequences? This is because the testes and kidneys in men develop from one organ in the same location. If the testicles want to settle in the scrotum, they must cross the peritoneum and afterward pass through the perineum to reach their normal position. And the path that must be taken is the inguinal canal.

After the birth of a child, the inguinal canal is gradually tightened and narrowed until it is atretic. Once the inguinal canal is delayed in closing because of the child's developmental disorder, it remains open.

At this time, under some external effects, such as crying, breath-holding and forceful defecation, etc., like some premature babies and very low-weight babies, the child's abdominal wall is not strong enough, and then the pressure in the abdominal cavity increases, and the intestinal canal and large omentum in the abdominal cavity overflows into the inguinal canal, and this is how the disease is formed.

The incidence of the disease is just lower in female babies than in male babies because of the narrower ducts they are born with, but they are not insulators of the disease.

Children like Mr. Zhang's were not detected and treated early enough, so the protrusion became stuck in the child's intestinal wall. The hernia was not reset, and eventually, the blood supply became insufficient and consequences such as hernia impaction and intestinal perforation came to the door.

In severe cases, a male baby suffering from a pediatric hernia that has not been treated in time may suffer from insufficient blood supply to the ipsilateral testicles, leading to testicular atrophy and a lifetime of damage. For female babies, the serious consequence may be ischemic necrosis of the ovaries.

How to identify disease signs in time?

The tragedy in Mr. Zhang's family was due to the negligence of the child's parents. But there is no such thing as "early detection". Early detection and identification of some danger signs of pediatric hernia is the key. This can be done in the following ways.

01Check frequently for protruding masses in the abdominal groove and see if the scrotum is the same size on both sides

02 Touch more often with your hands. Determine the following: mass texture, border clarity, and pain in pressure

03 Observe more often whether the mass appears only when standing, coughing hard, crying, or straining to defecate, and whether it can be retracted when the child lies flat or pushes and presses with his own hands.

It is recommended that if you are not sure about the condition of the mass on your child, it is best to take pictures and keep them to help the doctor make a diagnosis.

How to prevent a pediatric hernia?

01 The earlier you stand up, the smarter you are.

Some parents may have a comparison mentality and always think that the earlier a child stands, the smarter he or she will be and that their child cannot lag. So they especially like to let their children practice standing up too early.

But this can easily induce pediatric hernia. It is best to follow your child's growth pattern.

02 Prevent constipation in children

If you give your child blind supplements or have an unreasonable diet structure, it can cause constipation in children. Some children use too much force when they have a bowel movement, which may also induce a hernia.

03 Reduce the number of times your child cries

First of all, if babies cry too hard, the negative pressure will easily rise, increasing the probability of developing a pediatric hernia. The second thing is that some babies, who cannot express themselves, may cry to express their discomfort. Adults should not ignore this.

Many people feel that one of the most important things to do with children is to never ignore the "small details". But the problem is, when you lack the relevant knowledge base, you may not take the "small details" as details at all.
