Teen Questions About Masturbation

What about porn or sexual boundaries?

Can you talk to your offspring about masturbation? What about porn or sexual boundaries? Masturbation can be a difficult topic for many adults. Do you know for yourself if masturbation is normal?

There is a great need for young people to be informed about sexual health. What about porn or sexual boundaries?

For example, young people think about issues related to sexual activity, their own body, and development, as well as pregnancy, prevention, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Masturbation is therefore an acceptable and normal way to seek pleasure from one’s body for all ages. A study by Osmo Kontula, who studied Finnish sex, has also shown that almost every Finn has become complacent.

The amount of masturbation has been on the rise recently, which means it could be said to be very popular. Therefore, in addition to normal masturbation, it is also very common, Kallio recalls. Get to know your body in peace.

Girls often wonder how masturbation occurs. However, there is no single way to do it, but everyone gets the pleasure they want is completely individual. Therefore, you should get to know your own body in peace and by trying different things. For example, you can take a mirror, which makes it easy to get to know your own body.

One enjoys the greatest pleasure from the internal contact of the vagina, while another enjoys the most contact with the clitoris and the surrounding area. By experimenting and searching for different stuff, everyone is sure to find a suitable way to masturbate, the sexual therapist advises. What makes you feel good? - Masturbation and arousal can take place, for example, by hand, by mere thoughts, or, for example, by the shower. How you want to practice masturbation is everyone's own business.

Kallio adds that various thoughts, fantasies, and imaginations are also strongly associated with masturbation, as they can be used to stimulate even better. Interpreting the messages of your own body and mind is important so that the young person can only do what feels good about themselves in the future. There is no need to do anything.

There is no compulsion to masturbate, but not doing it is as normal as doing it. You don’t have to do anything with your body that doesn’t feel good.

The most important thing is to listen to your own body and thoughts, to feel your feelings. If some kind of touch does not feel good, it should not be continued. Looking to the future and a possible future partner, it is good to know what kind of contact you like and what you don't. Do you know what your child wants to know about sex?

Kallio's new book Suitably Wonder tells about masturbation and other sexuality-related issues that young people consider. Appropriately wonderful deals with topics that girls magazine readers have asked a sex therapist. The book is aimed primarily at girls ages 14-16, but is also suitable for educators; it gives parents information on how to talk to a young person about, for example, pornography, sexual boundaries, and even masturbation.

Teenage masturbation is natural, but for many parents, it is a distressing taboo - "Sex education is also associated with the youngest children"

An adult’s thoughtless reaction can hit a child’s developing sexuality with a deep wound.

The baby stretches his nipple with joy. The toddler wiggles his hand in his pants during the evening tale. The child may notice early on that touching the sex area feels nice.

Children’s masturbation, or numbness, is a natural thing, but the idea of one’s own child’s sexuality is confusing, even distressing, for many adults. Sexuality is easily remembered as sex and sex as intercourse - things that do not belong in the world of children.

The taboo is so great that the Population Union has developed its term for child masturbation, anxiety to make it easier to talk about. According to Raisa Cacciatore, a child psychiatrist and non-fiction writer at the Population Association, awakening is a good word also because child masturbation is a completely different matter from adult goal-oriented masturbation, which involves fantasies.

When a child examines or massages his genitals, it is about getting to know your own body and feeling comfortable. For a child, the lower end is the part of the body where the others are.

- A child seeks refuge, calm, comfort, and pleasure from anxiety. However, adults are confused as to how this should be treated and whether this is normal. The word tinnitus is used especially for adults, Cacciatore says.

The difficulty for adults to approach the matter was naturally revealed in a study conducted by the Population Union on sex education in 2013–2014. (you switch to another service), which addressed difficult topics.

In addition to reproductive issues and dangerous adults, a surprise arose: how should it be treated? After the survey, the Population Union added a wealth of information about child sexuality and advice to parents to its website. Cacciatore thinks the taboo has dissipated - but only slightly.

There are still myths and taboos associated with child masturbation. According to Cacciatore, they are a problem because an adult’s spontaneous negative reaction can cause a deep wound in the child’s self-esteem.

- A child registers an adult’s horror, anxiety, and intimidation and feels that he or she is evil in some way. He thinks I have offended the mind of a loved one, even though he has only experienced pleasure.

- A sensitive child may then be seen in sexual therapy as an adult, says Cacciatore.

The swimsuit rule sets the boundaries

Masturbation of children is common. In a study conducted by the Population Union in 2013 (you switch to another service) 70% of daycare professionals said there are children in their daycare group who openly annoy at least sometimes.

8% of parents said that their pre-school child openly drowns openly often. 20% of parents rarely noticed anxiety. Many children are amazed even when no one sees them.

Children of all ages are stunned. At the latest, however, school-age children adopt fitness rules and public anticipation disappears.

So what should be done about it? Raisa Cacciatorella, a child psychiatrist at the Population Union, has simple advice for parents: Do nothing.

- Investigate your feelings, what you may have experienced yourself, and how best to support your child's sense of encouragement. Treat the child's body with respect and give a name to each place, advises Cacciatore.

However, one should gently limit one's contact with others. For example, the swimsuit rule is a clear way to illustrate a thing to a child: there are private places under the swimsuit.

- Tell them that those places are similar to the others, but especially their own and valuable, and therefore they are not used to show everyone or touch everyone.

If the child feels “caught” in the awakening and the parent’s reaction is negative, the harm may be great but can be alleviated later.

- It can become a powerful experience that I have something really bad and I am disappointed. The child hides it in their heart and as sexuality develops forward, it can become an even bigger problems.

In rare cases, numbness can become a problem. According to Cacciatore, a child’s masturbation can be a symptom that indicates stress or other worries. Then the anxiety is accompanied by compulsion, anxiety, or pain.

It can be difficult for a child to quit when asked. Then help is needed and parents can turn to a counseling center.

- Even then, it is important that it does not result in punishment, but that the child receives help when he has symptoms, Cacciatore emphasizes.

Even a small person has the right to sex education

Sexual education of pre-school children is a new thing both in Finland and elsewhere in Europe. When an infant is told about sexuality, in practice, it means getting to know their own body and emotions and learning safety skills.

The adult needs to be able to explain, in an age-appropriate way, why the genitals involve ugly words, what the baby’s seeds are, and why the guy doesn’t always like it back.

The aim is now to promote sex education throughout Europe. Last autumn, 37 European Commissioners for Children called for a statement (you switch to another service)that every child has the right to sex education. The background is the sex education standards published in 2010 by the World Health Organization.

The world of children and young people has changed a lot. Authorities estimate that safety skills are needed promptly because even a small child today may run into porn. According to the school health survey, one in five high school students has had sexual intercourse. In Finland, it has been noticed that this may happen for young people for the first time without basic knowledge about sexuality.

- It is high time to understand that sex education is also associated with the youngest children. This is not a new thing in children's lives, but it is for many European countries, says Commissioner for Children Tuomas Kurttila.

The subject is not easy for all families. According to Kurttila, many families do not have enough information about what is included in sex education and why it is so important.

- Adults have fears and helplessness. Parents are sometimes a little unaware of what the world of children and young people is like. It is essential how we protect the child by strengthening his or her personality.

Sex education is also required by the new criteria of the early childhood education plan (you switch to another service)(Board of Education) i.e. "Vasu" which came into force last autumn. The new “vasu” orders all kindergartens and preschool organizers to teach children to respect their own and others ’bodies and encourages them to answer children’s questions.

There is no talk of sexuality in the new vein. Raisa Cacciatore of the Population Union thinks it was not yet ripe for it.

There is no such word, which of course I think is a problem, Cacciatore says.

Although all Finnish children should, in principle, receive similar and equal sex education, the goal is unlikely to be achieved in practice.

The issue is now very well-identified, but how cities and municipalities implement sexual and interpersonal education for pre-school children varies greatly. Professionals have a great need for training in how to talk about it with children and carers.

The best knock dance in the world

If sexuality is a completely silent thing in childhood, it can lead to a wide range of problems. For example, sexual shame perceived as a child is seen, according to Cacciatore, especially in the world of adult women. Your own lower end is ashamed, you can't enjoy it and you can't watch it.

Many inhibitions are a big problem in adult sexuality.

Even if adults are embarrassed, talking about sexuality is worth it.

- It is up to the adult to open this discussion. One cannot expect a child to ask to provide vital knowledge and skills.

These are the rights of the child, which are also in the wood in court. In January, the European Court of Human Rights made a historic ruling outlining that a 7-year-old has the right to sex education (you switch to another service) (Iltalehti) regardless of the parents' opinions related to culture or religion.

According to Tuomas Kurttila, the Ombudsman for Children, no relief should be given.

- Safety skills are in the best interests of the child. It can be compared to swimming skills, which are worth learning during basic education, Kurttila says.

Cacciatore knows that talking about children and sexuality in the same sentence can create a disgusting impression that something threatens a child’s innocence. However, according to the child psychiatrist, the opposite is true: it is a matter of protecting innocence.

- There is still a lot of information needed that a child's sexuality is a completely different thing than an adult's. Age-level sex education doesn’t mean bringing anything too much into the world of children from the world of adults, Cacciatore says.

Appearance pressures often put body image to the test in adolescence at the latest. However, the body image of a small child is usually very positive. It is worth cherishing.

- The child is sure that his knock dance is the best in the world, and the body can be used and displayed in every way. Let’s protect this fantastic thing. It doesn’t pollute it with shame to make our children’s sexuality richer.

That is what it is about

  • Child masturbation is a natural way for a child to relax, seek pleasure or explore themselves.
  • For many parents, the matter is confusing and distressing. Drowsiness already occurs in 2-year-old children. There is usually no need to react or intervene.
  • Young children also have the right to sex education. It is also encouraged in the new foundations of early childhood education.
