This is not a hidden fact that a healthy lifestyle is good for the mind and body. It is important to stay healthy because it makes us feel much happier and more energetic. Staying surrounded by diseases makes a person disinterested in life. For a better level of immunity and self-confidence, a healthy lifestyle should be led.

Can We Improve Eye Health with a Healthy Lifestyle?

Of course, we can! A healthy lifestyle has many positive effects on the body. It can help fight many age-related eye issues and also help in controlling the eye damage up to a certain extent.

Eyes and Nutrition

For different people, the definition of a healthy lifestyle is different. But for most of the people, it means to exercise regularly, eat well and sleep enough.

A well-balanced diet which includes foods which are low in sugar, salt and fat but high in fibre. It should also have enough minerals, vitamins and protein. Drinking 7-8 glasses of water is also necessary.

Doctors recommend eating foods enriched with vitamin C and E, omega 3 fatty acids, lutein and zinc for healthy eyes. Some of these are green leafy vegetables, eggs, carrots, fish, tuna, nuts and pork.

Avoiding bad habits like smoking and drinking can also help in maintaining good eye health. Research has found out that smoking can cause diseases which can lead to blindness such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and optic nerve damage.

The risk of developing age-related macular degeneration is much more in drinkers than in non-drinkers. So, it is always beneficial to avoid these bad habits not only for the eyes but also for the whole body.

Impact of Working out on Eyes

Exercising habitually can help you enhance your personality by sustaining an ideal weight. Keeping those extra pounds away from your body, you can also keep diseases like diabetes away. Being overweight means, you can be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. These diseases can expose you to the risk of macular degeneration, retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataract. By staying physically fit you can ward off all such diseases.

Doing hardcore work-outs is not necessary. Even brisk walking for thirty minutes can be good for you. Make sure you do something which you can put your heart to. For maintaining consistency, interest plays a major role.

Other Good Habits to follow for Better Eyesight

• Wearing Sunglasses

In addition to eating good and maintaining a proper physique, inculcating good habits in your lifestyle is also important. Wearing sunglasses on a daily basis no matter what the season is, should be done. Polarised anti-UV sunglasses will protect your eyes from the sun damage. Just like you remember to put on sunscreen for skin protection, remembering to wear sunglasses is just as important.

Even on cloudy days when we do not clearly see the sun, sunglasses are an essential accessory because then also they help in protecting our eyes from the harmful UV rays.

• Regular Eye-tests

Getting your eyes tested once in two years should also be a part of your lifestyle. They help in finding out any possible eye damage or any change in prescription. Wearing updated prescription glasses makes sure that your eyesight is not deteriorated further.

• Wearing Blue light Glasses

For minimalizing digital eye strain and headaches, blue light glasses should be used by people who spend a lot of time in front of digital screens. These glasses help block artificial blue light rays of the digital screens which are hazardous for the body.

Follow all the tips mentioned above and see an immense change in yourself. Not only your eyesight will be improved but you will also experience a change in your overall health. These easy tips will help you lead a happier, healthier and longer life.
