How An Epsom Salt Liver Cleanse Works & How To Do It

Your liver puts in plenty of work each day to filter toxins and keep you healthy. Though this is the liver's job, you still need to help it out once in a while. A good way to support the liver would be to initiate an Epsom salt liver cleanse.

Epsom salt liver cleanses are a great way to flush the system of unwanted toxins and get a fresh start. There are a few steps of the actual Epsom salt cleanse that you need to follow for it to be successful.

Also, there are a variety of supplemental ingredients that you can add to this cleansing routine. These won't get in the way of the Epsom salt cleanse, and they will make the process a lot smoother.

Some of the key ingredients you want to add to your diet for your liver cleanse includes phyllanthus niruri, cat's claw, and cordyceps militaris.

HOW DOES AN EPSOM SALT CLEANSE WORK?

Epsom salt liver cleanses usually take about 5-6 days from start to finish. There are a few different steps involved in the process. [1]

Before starting the cleanse, you should try to distance yourself from chemicals and other toxins as much as possible. This includes things like beauty products and alcohol, though that is not the only chemicals you come in contact with. Following your liver cleanse, you should consider eliminating alcohol as a whole.

Days 1-4 (or 1-5 if you need a deeper cleanse) will consist of sticking to a strict diet. You will need to eat healthy, organic foods and drink distilled or purified water. Try to avoid meat and dairy products, greasy and spicy foods, processed foods, and sugary foods. Also, avoid alcohol and tobacco products.

During the evening on the final day, you will mix a tablespoon of Epsom salt with 8 ounces of warm, purified water. Between 1.5 and 2 hours after this, drink ¾ cup of organic extra virgin olive oil. You can also add two tablespoons of citrus juice to help with the taste.

Immediately following this, you will need to go lie down on your side with your knees pulled up to your chest for about 30 minutes. After that, you can go to sleep in your normal position.

Throughout this process, you might experience some diarrhea, nausea, or general cramping. This isn’t anything to be alarmed about unless it continues for an extended period of time or becomes unbearable.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN SUPPLEMENTAL INGREDIENTS TO SUPPORT AN EPSOM SALT LIVER CLEANSE?

In addition to this cleanse, you should also consider adding supplements to your diet to support and maintain healthy liver function.

These supplements can have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that repair existing damage and prevent future issues from cropping up.

Some of the main liver cleansing ingredients to take note of include Phyllanthus Niruri, Cat’s Claw, and Cordyceps Militaris.

PHYLLANTHUS NIRURI HAS HEPATOPROTECTIVE AND ANTI-OXIDANT EFFECTS

Phyllanthus Niruri is a plant whose origins in medicine date back to ancient times. This plant has been used in treatment for many types of diseases over the years.

One study looked at the effects of Phyllanthus Niruri on liver health in male albino rats. [2]

The rats were divided into five groups:

Control Group – IP injection of distilled water for 7 days

Oral administration of Phyllanthus Niruri extract (100 mg/kg of body weight) for 7 days

IP injection (body cavity injection) of CCl4 (carbon tetrachloride) (0.5 ml/kg of body weight) for 7 days

IP injection of CCl4 (0.5 ml/kg of body weight) and oral administration of Phyllanthus Niruri extract (100 mg/kg of body weight) for 7 days

IP injection of CCl4 (0.5 ml/kg of body weight) for 7 days followed by oral administration of Phyllanthus Niruri extract (100 mg/kg of body weight) for 7 days

Results confirmed the hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of Phyllanthus Niruri.

Phyllanthus Niruri inhibited lipid peroxidation and improved GSH (antioxidant) levels.

Researchers report that Phyllanthus Niruri has free radical scavenging properties that stabilize MDA levels. MDA is an organic compound that marks oxidative stress in the body.

They also state that Phyllanthus Niruri improves enzyme levels.

CAT’S CLAW HELPS TO REDUCE BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS

Cat's claw is a woody vine found in tropical jungles in Central and South America and is named for its claw-shaped thorns.

This plant has been used in herbal medicine for many years and is manufactured as a dietary supplement.

One study showed that Cat's Claw reduces blood sugar levels, which pose a risk to liver function. [3]

The study consisted of 40 male rats treated with 15 mg, 75 mg, or 100 mg per kg of body weight doses of Cat's Claw.

Rats treated with 75 mg or 100 mg doses saw a decrease in blood sugar levels.

Researchers state that Cat’s Claw is used internationally for its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.

CORDYCEPS MILITARIS HAS ANTI-FIBROTIC EFFECTS TO PROTECT THE LIVER FROM DAMAGE

Cordyceps Militaris, an Asian mushroom used in herbal medicine for many years to treat liver and renal function, can strengthen the liver's overall functioning. This means that it can help your liver work more efficiently.

One study looked at 57 Korean adults with mild liver dysfunction. 28 of the participants received 1.5 g/day of Cordyceps Militaris, while the other 29 received a placebo. [4]

The researchers conducted CT scans of the liver at the baseline, 4-week, and 8-week points to determine the effects of the mushroom on liver functioning.

The treatment group showed significant improvement in liver strength, as revealed by the CT scan.

Researchers noted that this could be due to Cordyceps Militaris’ effect of suppression of hepatocyte fat accumulation.

CONCLUSION

Your liver is essential for maintaining your overall health. You need it to function correctly to continue filtering toxins out of your body.

Sometimes, you need to help your liver along, which you can do with an Epsom salt liver cleanse and supplemental ingredients. These produce hepatoprotective, antioxidant, anti-fibrotic effects, and the ability to lower blood glucose.
