Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a disorder that affects the large intestine and about 6 to 18% of people worldwide are suffering from this disease. It is caused due to muscle contraction in the intestine, inflammation, stress, spicy food, milk and dairy products, hormonal imbalance, etc. Symptoms include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, bloating, etc. This is not considered a life-threatening disease but it is a Gastrointestinal tract disorder that interferes with the vowel moments by causing distress and discomfort. Stress is associated with IBS and in this busy lifestyle, people are emotionally and mentally tensed. The colon is the main part of the intestine and has various ways that are directly connected with the brain. These nerves control the normal functioning of the colon but during the stressful condition, it can cause abdominal discord. For this, we have to follow some stress reduction relaxation therapy and training. Practicing yoga and regular exercise can also provide relief from stressful situations.

Here are some of the Remedies that you can do at home to prevent IBS symptoms-

  • Flax seeds - Flax seeds are the richest source of Omega 3 fatty acids and dietary fibers which are helpful in the easy passage of stool. These seeds also enhance immunity by supporting the immune system. It works in both conditions i.e., diarrhea and constipation.

How to use

  1. You can take one tablespoon of flax seed powder with plain water.
  2. The Other method you can do is- to mix 1 tablespoon of flaxseed powder in a cup of violin water and steep it for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink it at night before going to bed.
  3. It will help in stomach cleaning and relieves acidity.

  • Chamomile - Chamomile shows antispasmodic action due to the presence of tannins that provides relief from symptoms like an abdominal spasm, diarrhea, etc. This herb also reduces stomach inflammation.

How to use

  1. Take dried chamomile flowers and add 2 to 3 teaspoons of these flowers to one cup of hot water.
  2. Steep it for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Starin and then add 2 to 3 drops of lemon to it and drink this tea two times a day.

  • Green grass - Green grass is also called Durva in Ayurveda and works as a natural healer in case of IBS.

How to use

Prepare a fresh juice of green grass and drink it once a day daily.

  • Ginger - Ginger has a bioactive compound called gingerol that helps in reducing inflammation in the intestine and provides relaxation to the muscles. This is the best remedy for abdominal bloating and gas during IBS.

How to use

  1. Take 1 tablespoon of grated ginger and add it to one cup of hot water.
  2. Steep for 10 to 15 minutes then strain and add a few drops of honey for taste enhancement and drink it.
  3. You can drink this tea 2 to 3 times a day in case of abdominal cramps.
  4. Another method, you can also eat a mixture of grated ginger and honey before meals and this will provide relief from diarrhea and improves the digestion process.

  • Yogurt - Yogurt has probiotics that will keep healthy bacteria in the gut and provides a protective layer for the intestine. Galactic acid present in IT flush is out of the harmful bacterial toxins and keeps your gut healthy.

How to use

  1. Add yogurt to your smoothies and eat two times a day.
  2. You can also add half a tablespoon of psyllium husk to one cup of yogurt and eat it after lunch and dinner.

  • Peppermint - Peppermint has an antispasmodic property that relieves symptoms associated with IBS like abdominal cramping, bloating, etc. It has menthol present in it that gives a relaxing effect on intestinal muscles.

How to use

  • You can add 2 to 3 drops of peppermint oil to a half cup of water and can drink it two times a day.
  • You can also add one teaspoon of dried powder to a cup of hot water and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink it 2 times a day.
