For most people the holidays is where their healthy plan goes off the rails a little. It usually starts with telling yourself that it is just one treat or just skip one workout and then before you know it, it is the new year and you have gained a bunch of weight or just fallen off your routine. But there are ways that you can get through the holidays and not ruin your health.

Keep moving no matter what. While you don't have to workout every single day, you need to make sure that you don't stop moving. Stick to your workout routine no matter what is going on. If you are serious about either losing weight or just doing it for your health, than working out needs to be mandatory and a part of your every day life. You shouldn't be working out just because you think you should or because you want to lose that extra 10 pounds. It should just be a part of your every day life. Because if you lose the weight and then stop working out then you most likely will gain the weight back. Working out or just move in some way will make sure that you can at least maintain your weight. As a nation we tend to spend too much time sitting or just not moving and that is not good for your health.

If you are like me and love to bake or you just love treats, than the holidays is usually a time that we love to eat a lot of treats. I love to bake so usually during the holidays I bake a lot. Instead of eating those treats than make treats for other people. Either family, co-workers, friends or to people in need. We all could use a little pick me up now a days. Bake for other people is a great thing to do where you can still do some baking and do something nice for other people. And you don't have to eat all the treats yourself.

But having some treats are a part of the holidays. Don't go into the holiday season telling yourself that you are only going to eat healthy. There is just no way that is going to happen. So allow yourself a treat every now and again. But make sure that you stick to only one. If you say you are want to have a cookie than have the cookie, but only have that one. Often people tend to not stop at just one. One becomes two which can quickly become 10 and before you know if you have just gone off the deep end. Just because you have one treat doesn't mean you are a terrible person or that you have totally ruined your plan. You still need to enjoy life.

Make sure you have a support group around you. Don't go into it on your own. And don't keep it to yourself. Make sure that your friends and family know that you are eating healthy and know that it is very important to you. So that when you say no to that extra helping they don't keep trying to pressure you. Not having support around you or keeping it to yourself is a major way to get yourself off the rails. People can't be supportive if you don't tell them what is going on or just how important it is to you. There are a lot of online groups that you can join where people will help and support you and your health goals. A great online system is Beachbody, which is a streaming online system. But it also has a lot of support groups that you can join so you can find people that will help you along your health journey.

Make sure that have a plan. If you go into the holidays thinking that you know what is healthy and you will be fine than you will find that you go off the deep end. No matter what plan you are going to follow just make sure that you have one. Listen to your body of what feels best for you. If it is counting calories, portion control, keto or fasting, just make sure that you are following something. It will help you to get through the holidays and still be healthy.

Know that holidays are just a small part of the year. So no matter what happens don't be hard on yourself. If you go off your plan one day, it was just one day. Make sure that it does not become two or three or a week. Don't be hard on yourself and the next day get right back to your plan. This has been a hard year on all of us. The year is almost over. If this has taught us anything, than we need to make sure that we take care of ourselves. Our health should be the most important thing, especially in times like this.
