Free Weekly Reading #8 for 2021, 2-22- thru 2-28-21

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric, (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the 4 of Swords.

I find the fours of the Tarot to be cards of quietude, satisfaction and reflection. In the Pentacles, the set up work is finished and ready to go, in the Cups the emotional aspects are recognized and accepted and in the Wands the will has found its direction. With the Swords we come to a sense of peace born of the knowledge that rapier wit and razor sharp intellect are not always needed. When we hold the wisdom to know that in many situations vulnerability has a power as great as, if not greater than, a sharp tongue a settled calm can take hold even in the midst of chaos. The four of Swords shows us the balance between a well conceived defense and an acceptance of factors already in evidence. Often, in an argument or discussion, the participants begin with a passionate devotion to their own point. It’s when common ground is discovered and the discussion continues from that balanced point where we get results. This week the central energy is that of the balance we find in the use of every aspect of our mental energies. If you’ve ever had a ceiling fan you’ll know that if just one part is out of balance the whole thing wobbles, the pull chain taps against the housing and there's a subtle thumping sound to the air as the blades seem to beat at it. That annoyance can change your whole outlook on the day. However, when the fan and all of its parts are in balance the whole energy of the room is smooth and calm and comfortable. Your sensitivity to what’s around you isn’t tinged with an edge of irritation from the wobbly fan, it no longer rankles or distracts. When our thinking processes are in balance those distractions or disparities of reason no longer have the discordant edge to pull us out of equilibrium.

The West card is the Aeon.

The word aeon refers to an age or a stretch of time. As I see it, in Tarot the Aeon is about the beginning of a new age, a new birth. If the Death card is about rebirth, shedding the old and reigniting the self within, this card is about a whole new experience. I often use the image of the dragonfly to illustrate the Death card. The soul of the larva is transformed into the beautiful and majestic, flying dragon-like insect. The Aeon is like the laying of eggs and the new life that comes once they’re released and the influence of the elder is gone. With the energy of the Aeon we can wipe the slate clean and start fresh. When we’re newly born we have nothing to regret or forgive. By allowing ourselves --and those around us-- to stand in a new reality, we’re given the chance to do things differently. Even if things have always been great and we don’t want to do them differently, we can still expand and grow with new experience.

The east card is the Sun.

The Sun is the most radiant card in the deck. It illuminates. It shows us our dance in the light, that life really is good. As the Moon represents the collective unconscious, the Sun holds the recognition of the collective consciousness where we find ourselves as a true part of this macrocosm of life. We see the Whole and the fact that we are part of the great, vibrant, cohesive unity of life. With the energy of this card we find compassion, warmth, playfulness, inclusion, recognition and many of the good things in life that we encounter beyond the mundane, material issues we walk through each day. In the bright light of the Sun we can see the “big picture”, we’re transported to the top of the mountain so we can see how much farther the beauty spreads. The Sun brilliantly lights our new beginning so we can see all the good that's possible for us to enjoy.

In Conclusion;

This combination of balanced intellect, new reality and, quite literally, the light at the end of the tunnel is a powerful one. Given that we’re in times of great change and shifting values I find this grouping of cards to be really encouraging. Imagine having the presence of mind to see opportunities available to us when we embrace a whole new "life as we know it". The cool part, I think, is that our minds seem to be clear enough this week to recognize the many options we have spread before us when we realize that we are born in every moment we exist. When we can let go of the baggage we’ve carried for too long or just feelings of responsibility for things that no longer demand our service or maybe don’t even exist any more we're free to dance in the Sun.

Have a radiant week.

Light,Tory

TIP for the week: When you finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, whip out your kaleidoscope and play with the colors!
