Mirror Dragon Tarot

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric, (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card for the week is The Chariot.

The overriding sense I get for this week is that of release and motion. In looking at the image on this card we see the charioteer in full armor and holding an open chalice (shown as the disc). The armor signifying a hard outer shell and the open chalice the soft inner core, the image shows that as we gain experience in life and begin to intentionally integrate our softer inner core of emotion, reflection, spirit and unity, (the chalice) our consciousness (the armor) softens with wisdom and trust. Once this more flexible persona becomes more familiar we learn to honor our desires and dispel unwarranted fears. The Chimeras at the front of the chariot show us the riddles of life in the physical and the myriad connections we make between the spiritual and daily reality. This has been a year of such major change for the whole planet that we’ve been forced to look outside the norm for reason, guidance, options and healing. We’ve come face to face with the baser instincts, abilities and frailties of what it is to be a human and opened up to seeing different ways to live. To say that 2020 has knocked us out of our comfort zone is to vastly understate how we’ve changed and what we’re learning. The Chariot is said to represent the “way of wishes”. When we follow the path of our desires, no matter how challenging that path may be, the journey is always worth the work. On the other hand, even the greatest achievements are meaningless if we learn nothing of ourselves in their completion. This is about self realization and recognition of the ways in which we embrace and direct our life’s path.

The West card is the Magician.

One of the Benefits we find in the acknowledgement of our “journey of wishes” is just how magical we are. A quote from one of my favorite authors, Paoulo Coelho, says that “when you make a decision the Universe conspires to make it so.” To me, this is an excellent description of magic. It is in that tiny fraction of a moment that we shift from idea to desire that magic happens. We humans are magnificent, manifesting masters. Our thoughts give birth to intentions which, in turn, give birth to words and our words carry those thoughts and intentions into the physical. We literally breathe life into our thoughts as we speak them. This is the magician in all of us. Along with the amazing power we have to create out of desire and intent we carry the responsibility for what we create. The old saying “be careful what you wish for, lest you get it” is good advice this week as we loosen the charioteer’s armor to accept a broader array of possibilities and begin the process of creating them.

The East card is the 4 of Cups.

With the two other cards in the reading being from the Major Arcana they reflect an overall life lesson that our daily situations present themselves to teach. I think of them sometimes as the Universe giving me a thump of the head to say, “pay attention! This is important.” With the Major Arcana Chariot and Magician tossing some life changing lessons at us, we have this open hearted four showing us quite clearly that our cups runneth over. The emotions this week will be deep, profound and more acutely felt than almost any other time in the past year. There will be experiences of love, forgiveness, awareness, old hurts and resentments that finally come to a head, laughter, tears, shouts and sighs, epiphanies and reflection and all at their deepest and most enlightening resonance. It is a very healing and renewing time. If you can, try to step free from the chains of anger, fear or resentment and ride the chariot of wishes to follow the reappearance of the sun.

In conclusion;

As we pass the winter solstice and the light begins its slow return we do so with a sense of relief, capability and gratitude. We’ve been through a B-movie twister of a year and come out more self-aware, awakened and wiser than we went in. With the chariot of and self realization and wishes, and the magician’s touch we have a choice now as to how we enter the light of 2021. Go forward in clarity and welcome the light.

Peace, Tory

TIP for the week: Pleasure is very seldom found where it is sought. Our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks. Samuel Johnson, 1759
