Reading for 1-4-21 thru 1-10-21

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric, (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the High Priestess.

As we enter a new year and a new age (Age of Aquarius) we notice our focus beginning to shift from Water-based Pisces to Airy Aquarius. Approximately 2000 years ago when we shifted from the ego focused age of Aries into an understanding that Ego wasn’t enough we began the transition into the Age of Pisces. We realized the need for a greater connection. The Aries ideal of the Warrior/King/Hero (ego) transformed into the ideal of Saint/Deity (Spirit, God, Universe, Heaven) and the desire to merge Universal Truths with the ego of Self. Unity vs Separation. Now, having been through the process of moving from the separation of ego/self into the recognition of Oneness and Unity we are poised to begin spiritually advancing from being connected intellectually and electronically to being connected intuitively. Moving from Universal growth and the progress of humanity to personal changes in our lives right now: This year we begin to engage our thinking processes to dissect all the changes we’ve been through in the last year and the inevitable question of “why?” has likely popped up. In looking past the what, when and how, we reach beyond the obvious challenges directly in front of us and expand our attention to bigger, more philosophical questions. We ponder the reasons we’ve endured the life-shredding year we just emerged from. This is where the High Priestess comes in. While the Hierophant or High Priest shows us the means and ways we use to communicate our spiritual connections ie; rules, stories, commandments, tenets etc., the Priestess actually IS that connection. It may seem like a subtle difference but in reality the contrast is as big as that between feeling and speaking. When we capture our Knowing in words we're only able to express our feelings within the limitations of language. Music, art, poetry, dance all help us augment the language we know hasn’t gone quite far enough in expressing the deep inner senses we want to communicate. In the Priestess we find the Universal core, our experience of connection to all things. Neil DeGresse Tyson has said that we are all stardust. The atoms in our bodies are composed of the same heavy elements -- hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, calcium, sulfur-- made by stars which exploded billions of years ago expelling these elements created with the immense heat and pressure of a dying star to become the building blocks in the tiny atoms that make up each of us. In that regard we are all One. The Priestess signifies our Unity. That unity which people have created religions throughout human history to share.

The West card is the Chariot.

This card is a repeater, it came up 2 weeks ago and now this week. It’s a great representation of the huge movement and change the world is going through right now. As the Chariot rolls forward we find ourselves transported, and though it may seem that we have no control over our direction, speed or duration the charioteer, the central figure, shows us that ultimately we are the driver of this forward movement. There are many issues, many details and options we must decipher and weave together to create a map of what we choose to have as we ride this wave of changes. It’s very daunting, yes but illuminating and exhilarating as well. I think one of the reasons for the disruption of the past year is the uprooting of habits and/or lifestyles we’ve become complacent with. Perhaps it’s the Universe pushing us out of the nest so that we can discover the strength of our wings.

The East card is the 5 of Cups.

In the image on the card we can see that three of the cups have been used up and are empty. Often the tendency to focus on what was, what we had or what we lost, keeps our minds and hearts in the past. The changes we’ve been through have definitively shown us just how empty those cups are and as we gaze into the emptiness we grieve. Many of us have lost jobs, friends, income, homes, even family members lives and the grieving process is intense. Grief is a necessary component to growth and we grieve as we must however wallowing in that grief can stagnate and stunt us. The beauty of this five is that there are two cups just beyond our view that are full of potential and hope, love and inspiration. When we find the courage to look away from what was, when we've grieved enough, we can turn our attention away from the past and see cups full of opportunity.

In conclusion;

The week that begins this year is one of unity, movement and grief. We are moving forward, that’s a given. The choice is ours about what to do and where to go from here. The Priestess reawakens us to the stardust of who we are and the Oneness we’re part of. The Chariot is a token of the strength and the ability we have to own and direct our progression on the path ahead, and the 5 of cups honors our grief and our humanity as we heal the ego and embrace the oneness of the Universe that is part of us.

Light, Tory

TIP for the week:

Recognize that the very molecules that make up your body, the atoms that construct the molecules, are traceable to the crucibles that were once the centers of high mass stars that exploded their chemically rich guts into the galaxy, enriching pristine gas clouds with the chemistry of life. So that we are all connected to each other biologically, to the Earth chemically and to the rest of the Universe atomically. We are in the Universe and the Universe is in us. Neil DeGrasse Tyson
