Mirror Dragon Tarot

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

This week all the cards are from the Minor Arcana. While the Majors show us the larger life lessons that we’ve come into physical form to experience, the Minors show us the day to day challenges and triumphs we face that help us see and resolve the wisdom we seek.

The Center card this week is the 4 of Swords.

The swords represent the Air element and reflect our cognitive, articulate left-brain thought processes, ideas and decisions based on the “facts”. The fours denote times of recognition, contemplation and calm stasis. Although while we’re dealing with the fours, and this week we have two of them, it often seems like we’re at a standstill, but that slower pace allows us to take the time to look at every aspect of a situation. This helps us determine what works, what doesn’t and what -if anything- needs to change. The 4 of Swords denotes clear thinking, decisive action and ideas that spring from a wealth of planning and calculation. This card gives us a clear recognition of well thought out plans that result in completion and culmination that come to a rational conclusion. One thing to keep in mind is that these decisions and results are based on practical application and the incorporation of known elements to a desired end. They rely on perceived reality and deny emotional or dreamy interpretation. This can result in fantastical thinking and idealistic desires being punctured by “reality”. As a result, overblown fantasies or unrealistic ideas will likely be brought down to earth. While it can be a disappointment to find out that your horse is really a just horse and not a unicorn, it also gives you reliable and practical information that can actually be put to use.

The West card is the 4 of Pentacles.

Because the pentacles represent the earth element and our resources; time, energy, money and our physical selves, this 4 can make it seem as though the flow of needed resources has dwindled down to a trickle. It’s likely because of this slow down that our lofty ideas need to be pulled down out of the stratosphere and be retooled to fit more realistic applications. The highlight of the stasis we find in the fours is that along with the slowdown we get a chance to rest, step back, reassess and reconfigure. The hard part is letting go of things we really wanted to have work that just didn’t. What does one feed a unicorn anyway?

The East card is the 9 of Swords.

As a result of the slowdown of the fours, plus the reassessment of priorities and applications, disappointment could create hard feelings and resentment. The best way to work through these responses is always honest communication. However, emotional reactions to change don’t often lend themselves to cool headed, practical discussion. When or if the conversation devolves into spiteful or angry interactions, which can easily happen with this 9 of swords, that’s the time to take a breath, recenter to align with your highest and best inner knowing and try to return the communication to an even keel. Keep in mind cooler heads prevail and use the break in the action to find your balance. Maybe the unicorn comes in the step after this one...?

In Conclusion;

This week may feel like nothing is going the way it’s been planned and rethinking is required just to get back to forward movement. Through frustrations, disappointments and changes a cool head will keep things from blowing up completely. Unless, of course they need to blow up, in which case, grab the asbestos umbrella and wait for the pieces to finish falling before beginning to rebuild.

Have a determined week.

Light, Tory

TIP for the week: Some people carry their hearts in their heads; many carry their heads in their hearts. The difficulty is to keep them apart yet actively working together. Augustus Hare
