It is important to understand that heartburn is a symptom of indigestion. Normally this discomfort occurs after eating foods that react with the natural acid in our stomachs. You will feel extremely full, and possibly even nauseas. The greatest sign that you are suffering from indigestion is the burning feeling you get in your chest, which is often called heartburn. This sensation occurs due to acids backing up through your esophagus; this may cause a burning sensation in your throat and mouth. If you suffer from indigestion regularly, then it may be wise to visit your doctor to ensure you do not have a serious condition.

It is very important to eliminate foods that trigger these uncomfortable situations if you desire a less painful eating experience. Common foods that trigger heartburn are; large meals and fatty foods, alcohol, citrus fruits, tomatoes, and even chocolate. If you can not imagine giving up your favorite glass of red wine, then consider limiting your consumption. The less you ingest these trigger substances the better you will feel over time.

There are several foods that are beneficial when added to your daily diet. Vegetables, oatmeal, lean meats, and non-citrus fruits are all very beneficial, in regards to combating the reflux of acid. With the addition of these foods not only will you feel healthier, but your symptoms will appear far less often. There is no need to continually suffer after eating, especially when you do not have to.

If you eat a well balanced diet, then the occasional glass of wine or candy bar will not send your body into a frenzy. Exercise is also beneficial to help keep your digestive system function at an optimal level. You will also feel far less stressed, sleep better, and think more clearly. Just remember to pinpoint your triggers to effectively eliminate the foods that are causing a problem for you. Each person’s situation will vary, so it is wise to test foods individually until you confirm which ones are the culprit.

It may be necessary to avoid spicy foods altogether, and make sure foods such as onions are sautéed before consuming. The more you consider your diet, the better you will feel. Try to avoid greasy foods for a while to give your body time to heal. It is also important to consume plenty of water to help aid in the digestion process.

Do not allow your condition to get worse over time because you simply avoid the situation. If you continually avoid or leave your situation untreated you may suffer unnecessary damage to your esophagus and intestinal lining. Do not feel as if you are giving up your favorite foods, but rather you are healing your body so it will last you a lifetime. Over time you will find new foods that will help you feel stronger, leaner, and healthier than when you were consuming foods that you loved. Most importantly, that uncomfortable burning sensation in your chest will subside, and you will feel full, rather than stuffed. Just remember, it is important to balance your diet between healthy and unhealthy foods if you want to feel better.
