According to a Study, Weighing Yourself Daily Makes You Lose Weight

When we weigh ourselves, we often become more aware of our weight.

Although we are already immersed in the final stretch of summer, it is always interesting to see if there are new methods to look better, whatever time of year it is.

Beyond diet and physical exercise, it seems that the act of weighing ourselves helps us lose fat, or maintain our weight.

With these problems, it's better to face them. This applies to all areas of life, and the weight loss was not going to be less relevant.

And it turns out that if you are able to overcome the terror of getting on the scale, and accept the news it has to give you (even if it's bad at first), you have taken a very important step towards your goal: lose weight.

Weighing Ourselves Frequently

When we weigh ourselves, we often become more aware of our weight. If we are used to weighing ourselves frequently, we can even predict how much weight we will gain or lose in a week according to our habits.

Quantifying weight is important, it makes the relationship between habits and kilos more tangible. In addition, there are studies that show that frequent weighing helps to lose weight.

A study by the University of Drexel and the University of Pennsylvania analyzed the evolution of body fat percentages of 294 women over two years, discovering that those who acquired the habit of controlling their weight often managed to reduce this index significantly.

Dori Steinberg, a Duke University researcher, explains:

"Daily weighing may encourage us to follow a pattern of healthy eating and exercise, and seeing this combination of behaviors work, people are encouraged and weighed in order to test their goals (…)."

It seems to be a motivational behavior. Weighing yourself on a daily basis helps you become aware of what you eat, and how that affects weight."

How Often to Weigh Ourselves

The question is how often to weigh ourselves when we are losing weight: once a month, once a week, every day, several times a day? Like almost everything else, virtue is in the middle.

Weighing once a week can be scarce, especially for those who are looking for weight loss. Once a month can be good for someone whose weight doesn't fluctuate much, but wants to maintain control.

Weighing once a day is not crazy either, although it is not something reliable to look at the weight lost or gained from one day to the next, as many factors influence the number: loss of fluid, drugs, type of food consumed... If it does not become an obsession, or affect our mood (something that according to studies seems not to happen usually), this is one more way to control weight.

Although it seems clear that being faithful to this routine helps you avoid weight gain, or even help to lose weight without following any specific diet, it is not recommended to obsess: the ideal frequency is around two or three times a week, since the fluctuations suffered from one day to another can be due to a multitude of factors that have nothing to do with it.

I recommend you to have a mobile application to control your weight, and do it from one to three times a week.

The application will give us a graph, will tell us if we meet goals, and, ultimately, gives us objective data on whether we are doing well or badly when it comes to losing weight.

If you are thinking about losing weight, establish a routine to weigh yourself, and do it frequently, because it can be one more measure that will help you lose weight.

Yes, we can!
