With how busy each of us is in our daily lives, it can be easy to forget about spending time on ourselves. After all, when you’ve got a project deadline looming, you probably can’t make time to treat yourself to a relaxing bath.

However, spending some time each day taking care of yourself can actually help with the rest of your life. It can re-energize you and help you face any challenges that the day might bring. Most importantly, contrary to personal belief, self-care doesn’t have to take much time.

Here are some fun, quick self-care tips that will have you feeling better before you know it!

If you wish to read more about my work, please see my website, a media agency, and my Instagram.

1. Take a Short Break to Declutter Your Surroundings

A lot of us don’t realize how cluttered our homes or desks can get as a result of a long day of work. Take 15-20 minutes out of your workday and declutter your immediate surroundings. This allows you to take a break from the stress of your job while also helping you stay busy. Additionally, cluttered surroundings have been shown to increase stress – clear the space around you, and you’ll be surprised by how rejuvenated you feel.

Another tip I have found that helps is to declutter your desktop; while physical spaces are important, digital spaces have also become increasingly important. Take 10-15 minutes to organize your desktop and your folders. I find this is soothing and helps in the long term because it saves so much time - and frustration - when looking for files and not being able to find them. Take a moment to think how to organize your folders logically so that any time of the year, you can log into your home screen and within seconds find what you are looking for, and voila!

2. Drink a Cup of Tea in the Morning

While a lot of us are coffee freaks, studies show that drinking tea can positively affect your health, including your heart health. It will allow you to get your caffeine in the morning in a healthier package. Also, green tea can help reduce cholesterol levels, helping you stay healthy – and the better your body feels, the less stress your brain feels.

3. Treat Yourself to a Session at the Beauty Parlor

While you may not be able to find the time for a full spa date, you should still be able to get a quick manicure or pedicure. Not only will this help you look better, the moment you take to relax and focus on something outside of work will also help you feel better and more rejuvenated.

4. Breathe

Take a moment to breathe. Yoga breathing, in particular, can have a number of positive impacts on the human body. Even spending 20 minutes doing it can improve your mood and may even have a positive impact on memory. Focusing on nothing but your breathing for a couple of minutes also allows you to spend some time with and focus, on yourself, instead of letting you burn the candle on both ends.

There are tons of different self-care tips available on the Internet. These tips are some of my own secrets to ensuring that I never forget about myself. However, if they don’t work for you, you should try and create your own self-care routine regardless.

Not only will it help you feel invigorated during the day, it can help you focus and may also have a positive impact on your physical health, as opposed to simply your mental health. I believe that there’s no single answer to the best way to indulge in self-care – it can be anything from being able to breathe fresh air daily to spending the day shopping till we drop. After all, we’re all different – so why should our methods of decompressing be the same?
