“It’s not always that we need to do more but rather that we need to focus on less.”

― Nathan W. Morris

I began journaling when I was in my senior year of high school, and if you remember that time, you’d remember it was just insanity and sleep deprivation walking. journaling offered me a way to get organized on an emotional and external level. After writing things down not only did my productivity skyrocket, my mental health improved. study after study shows that when you write things down you remember them.

This is because when we visually analyze something and also have to take that thing and process it internally to put it on paper, it ignites deeper processing in the brain and allows the individual to better understand what they’re being shown. For example, Psychology professor Dr. Gail Matthews, at the Dominican University in California, led a study on goal-setting with nearly 270 participants. The results revealed that you are 42 percent more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down.

So, with all that in mind lets discover three ways we can begin implementing this today.

1.Organization

we all know life can be a never-ending tornado of things that consistently demand our attention, and oftentimes the really important things, like our goals and passions are forgotten or overlooked.when we take the time to really write out our day, especially busiest days it frees up our minds to and alleviates the stress of possibly forgetting since its already written down

Incorporating “To-Do Lists” and setting “Daily Priorities” are crucial ways we can promote success and efficiency daily. Many of us on our busiest days feel frazzled and stressed, by simply putting our top 3 to 4 most important tasks on paper and focusing on those before the rest will maximize productivity. Even if you don’t get to everything listed for that day you at least touched on and accomplished the most beneficial tasks and alleviated some of that stress.

2. Long-Term Goals Success

Long term goals are often the hardest goals to keep, the ebb and flow of life has a way of making us forget we always wanted to start our own business or write that book.

It’s important we don’t let our long-term goals die because they’re often the important ones and the ones that truly represent what we want to accomplish in life. Writing down our long-term goals over and over again on a regular basis will keep them at the forefront of our minds. Similarly, putting your long-term goals somewhere where you have to see them every day is a great way to stay conscious of what you’re working for.

Taking the time to check-in and review your long term goals is a great way to hold yourself accountable.

3. Emotional Health

I think this is the most beneficial thing with we can gain from journaling and writing. In terms of emotions journaling or writing things down gives us the space to see our emotions from a detached view which can yield a broader perspective on your emotional climate. “Journals are like a checkpoint between your emotions and the world,” clinical psychologist Beth Jacobs, Ph.D.

For me, journaling is a great way to channel and alleviate stress in a productive way. It’s a great way to gain an understanding of our emotional climate and better deal with our emotions in the future. something about putting it down and being able to analyze my feelings on paper yields a lot of perspective and healing.

So take a few minutes every day or every other to check in with yourself. remember when we feel good we do good.

Invest In This!

Journaling offers a plethora of opportunities for growth, but like all opportunities, we have to take initiative and apply them.
